Overview & Reviews
Minor changes are in store for the 2003 Ford Focus. Two new trim levels increase the breadth of prices for Ford's economy car; a base trim for the three door hatchback renders air conditioning optional and only comes with a manual transmission. For the five door hatchback, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, front reading lights and a center console are available when you step up to the comfort trim level from the base level. Heated front seats are a new option, as is a traction control and ABS package. New colors for the exterior brighten up the color palette, and the interior is freshened with two new fabric trims. Finally, a CD/MP3 player is now standard on the ZX3 and ZX5. A SVT version of the ZX5 is also scheduled to appear later in the year.
- Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

98,000 and still going! - 2003 Ford Focus
By 03FOCUSlx - January 21 - 8:23 amI purchased this car 2 years ago with 32,000 miles on it. At 55,00 miles the ignition had to be replaced $150. At 75,000 timing belt and tensioner broke and left me stranded, also needed battery, spark plugs & wires, crank sensor. Repair cost was $1000. Then 95,000 miles and six months later, the tensioner broke again, left me stranded -- $350 more dollars. Then at 97,000 miles the battery cable fell off from the starter, had to be towed, $77. At 98,500 it went back because the check engine light was on, it then needed a, oxygen sensor for $130. Now I guess it is fine, still running good, never put brakes on it yet; just tires and oil changes. Overall for having 100,000 miles on it, it is a pretty good little car!

Basically, a very good car - 2003 Ford Focus
By Lance - January 12 - 4:53 pmLow mileage car when I bought it. 2.0 Zetec, 5 spd. I drive it conservatively & get 35mpg overall. Love hatchback room & a pity it is no longer offered. A very good, reliable car, new, or used, for the money.

Great Car! - 2003 Ford Focus
By FocusFan - December 26 - 8:11 pmThis is my first car and so far it has been great. Weve had it for a year and it hasnt had so much as a battery problem-Extremely reliable. The car is easy and fun to drive with tight steering and a lot of zip to it. Both the interior and exterior have a really cool design. I do a have some complaints The interior-actually the whole car- has an overuse of cheap plastic and the brakes squeak, but only in very cold, rainy, or snowy weather. If youre looking for a reliable car you cant go wrong with the Focus.

Ford Focus 2003 - 2003 Ford Focus
By zane lommock - November 8 - 3:43 pmI have performed only standard maintenance on this auto since purchase. I placed tires on car at 33,000 miles. Car gets excellent mileage on highway and city driving. Only complaint is lack of power from 110 hp engine, adequate but only just.

Love My ZTS! - 2003 Ford Focus
By ragtopgeek - October 15 - 10:00 amI owned a 01 ZTS for one year, and liked it so much I traded up for an 03 ZTS w/automatic, totally loaded. The driving dynamics are incredible. In an attempt to become more minimal, I just sold my 96 Porsche 911 and 01 Mercedes SLK this past year, so have some experience with nice cars. Of course the ZTS is not a 911 or SLK, but I dont feel like I stepped down from Cindy Crawford to Hillary Clinton. Still have long-term reliability concerns. Would like to think I got a good deal: Every-option ZTS, including Centential Package, with an extended 2 year b-to-b for an out-the-door price of $16,600.

Ford Focus 03 dohc - 2003 Ford Focus
By Ed Dickinson - September 23 - 6:10 pmDrove car off show room, never had a problem, except normal maintenaince. The car needs more power, a min.of 190hp to 210hp. The lack of power is a big draw back wth the Ford Focus.

4 years and counting - 2003 Ford Focus
By Loyola C. - September 3 - 6:33 pmIm torn on this car. Ive had it for 4 years and had to replace the alternator today (cost $531.89 p/l). Like some other people, early in the purchase I had problems w/the ignition and had to have it replaced. I had to have the tires replaced too. Ive always made sure to service the vehicle and care for it as instructed, and other than the alternator, I havent had to deal w/any major repairs yet. For a lower end car, I think it has done pretty good.

FOCUS ZTW A-OK - 2003 Ford Focus
By raiderrick - July 10 - 10:00 amOK, only had it for a month, but so far, so good. Lots of pull from the Zetec and it sticks to the road like glue with the Pirellis. Bonus cross beams (luggage rack) on delivery were a surprise. RR

Good car - 2003 Ford Focus
By vbchick - June 27 - 4:24 pmI have had my car for about a month. Overall the car is great. It gets great gas mileage and is a great little car for me. I am 61" and fit pretty good. There is lots of head and leg room. Other cars I sat in my legs hit the steering wheel, but in the Focus the adjustable up/down feature of the seat gives me lots of room. Overall this is a great car.
