This Year's Model Updates:

Minor changes are in store for the 2003 Ford Focus. Two new trim levels increase the breadth of prices for Ford's economy car; a base trim for the three door hatchback renders air conditioning optional and only comes with a manual transmission. For the five door hatchback, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, front reading lights and a center console are available when you step up to the comfort trim level from the base level. Heated front seats are a new option, as is a traction control and ABS package. New colors for the exterior brighten up the color palette, and the interior is freshened with two new fabric trims. Finally, a CD/MP3 player is now standard on the ZX3 and ZX5. A SVT version of the ZX5 is also scheduled to appear later in the year.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

I just bought the 03 ZX3 and I love it so far. very peppy for such a small car. Feels to have alot more power than the specs indicate. Drives very well in the snow (just had 18").

  • Pleased, for the most part - 2003 Ford Focus

Ive had my Focus for about 6 weeks and am disappointed about only one thing: The fuel economy is much worse than I thought it would be. I traded in a 1997 Escort that still got about 375-400 miles out of a tank of gas. Im lucky to get 325 out of the Focus, and thats with a lot of highway driving. On the positive side, the sound system and creature comforts a nice. Its a fun ride.

I have had my Focus for 6 weeks, long enough for my 2 big dogs to spread their hair around. The leather seats, make it much easier to clean than with cloth seats. The interior is classy, stylish. The Focus is clean, classy, beautiful. Sound system is wonderful. Easy to figure out! You get a CD to pop in the PC or listen to in the car, that explains everything in detail. Last night, the Focus let me get out of a crowded parking lot- in record time--the maneuverability is great. Getting on the expressway is easy--its a speedy little car, too. And solid--no rattling like the other cars I test drove. This is my first Ford--and I love it!

  • 2003 was a bad year for Focus. - 2003 Ford Focus

I bought mine used at 19,000 miles, and have had it for 13 months now. The drivetrain has performed well, except for the 1-2 shift issue appearing at sudden brief stops. I dont typically drive that way, so its not a problem. My problems have included the windshield wiper motor control, which had to be replaced, the cruise control, which had some connector that had to be replaced, the remote control trunk latch, which had to be replaced and even then had to be taken back and adjusted to proper operation, and the ignition cylinder, which caused a short and had to be replaced. All told Ive had the vehicle in the shop 6 times in a year for warranty repair and re-repair.

  • ZX3 With PZEV engine - 2003 Ford Focus

This has been a very fun car to drive. Acceleration is solid and the 2.3L PZEV engine has more pickup than its predecessor. No defects noted both exterior and interior. A wonderful car to drive

  • Reliable and fun to drive - 2003 Ford Focus

I was somewhat dubious about the Focus after reading certain comments about earlier models but after 6 months and 11000 miles Ive had no problems at all. Drives very well, feels sturdy and looks good (hatchback.) So far it seems like a really good deal. More fun to drive than the Japanese competition.

  • I like it - 2003 Ford Focus

The car has been great for the first 700 miles and I only had the car a week. It seems like Im always at the gas station. I havent figured out the gas milage yet so I dont know if its because Im getting bad gas milage or because its the small gas tank. The car handles really well. With all of the incentives I got it dropped the price considerably. I have also enjoyed the 6-disc changer even though I really didnt think I needed it.
