This Year's Model Updates:

Minor changes are in store for the 2003 Ford Focus. Two new trim levels increase the breadth of prices for Ford's economy car; a base trim for the three door hatchback renders air conditioning optional and only comes with a manual transmission. For the five door hatchback, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, front reading lights and a center console are available when you step up to the comfort trim level from the base level. Heated front seats are a new option, as is a traction control and ABS package. New colors for the exterior brighten up the color palette, and the interior is freshened with two new fabric trims. Finally, a CD/MP3 player is now standard on the ZX3 and ZX5. A SVT version of the ZX5 is also scheduled to appear later in the year.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

The best way to catagorize this car is its motorcycle with windows. It handles great and is great fun to drive. Wish it had a little more power, but thats always the case.

Great car all-round except the gas mileage which averages 20mp US gallon around town. Im lucky to get 31mp US gallon on the highway. Cheap to maintain. Very reliable up to now. Great service department at the dealer. Looks great. DONT BUY A BLACK CAR IT SHOWS THE DIRT BIG TIME but it looks great when its clean. Stylish, believe it or not the car attracts glances from people saying they like the look of the car. Space, the trunk is HUGE!

  • My experience with my SVT - 2003 Ford Focus

At first I really enjoyed the car. It is great fun to drive. The 6 speed provides good pull at every shift. I have experienced some problems with the car however. It has been back to the dealership 4 times with clutch problems. One of those times I had to be towed in. Finally all the clutch assembly, slave cylinder etc. had to be replaced. Needless to say with less then 20,000 miles on it, I have lost some of my confidence in the car. Gas mileage is good but the car requires gasoline rated over 91 (super premium). With prices over $2.00, it can cost well over $20.00 to fill the tank. I will not buy another Focus SVT again.

Just after 20000 miles, the Rotors and Pads ($325.00) needs to be done. Brake pads are very thin. It is true, you get what you pay for. Focus is lower in cost, but also lower in quality. It is has been told to us that replacing rotors and pads would need to be done yearly on top of the 30000 mile service which tops at 360.00! Give me a brake Ford! Im searching for Foreign made cars -- better quality!

  • Under-rated, under-estimated - 2003 Ford Focus

Absolutely in love with this car. Dont be off-put by the 2000-2001 recall whiners- hasnt been a recall since 01 and my ZX3 hasnt had a single problem to date. This car is so much fun to drive that I often find myself taking the long-way to destinations. A convoluted intake system robs this car of much-needed low-end torque (even with the 5-speed manual), but its still easy to chirp the tires and its great in the higher revs. A surprisingly fun car to flog in the twisties. All the friends whom Ive allowed to test-drive dont want to give up the keys. For a $13,000 hatch-back!

Lots of bang for the buck. real xenon lights, not those fake aftermarket lights. Need to keep revs up to enjoy engine. Unreal handeling. kept up with bmw 330 series no problem. very stable at high speeds (110 plus).

This is the second Focus Wagon I have owned. After a major front end collision in my 2001 Focus Wagon and all 5 passengers walking away from a car with 10" of the front of the car pushed into the engine, not a bit of the interior passenger compartment was moved. The entire compartment remained intact and except for bruising and a few scrapes, we escaped unharmed. This proved safety to me and was the reason I went right for another Focus wagon when I replaced the original one! This car is build well and constructed for those of us in the Baby Boomer generation, a good thing! I love my car!
