This Year's Model Updates:

The new model year ushers in some significant changes for the 2005 Ford Focus. Exteriors have been updated with revised fascias and trim, and the car's oddball interior design has been replaced by more sedate and sophisticated furnishings. Last year's diverse engine lineup has been scrapped in favor of an all-new PZEV-rated 2.0-liter power plant good for 136 horsepower. A performance-oriented ST sedan has been added to take the place of the discontinued SVT Focus hatchbacks; it features a 151-hp incarnation of last year's excellent 2.3-liter PZEV engine. The 2.3-liter loses its squeaky-clean PZEV rating, however. In other news, the typically confusing array of trim levels and packages has been organized into logical and consistent trim lines, standardized across all body styles. New audio systems, increased interior storage and tweaked suspension tuning round out this year's midcycle makeover.

Pros:
  • Spacious and comfortable interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, smooth ride, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

Traded in an F-150. I was afraid I wouldnt enjoy a small car. But I was wrong. Its very zippy and I love passing gas stations on the road! Handles great on curves, visibility is good and the trunk is very roomy. According to my teenage son the legroom is good also. I like the 6 CD changer but will probably upgrade the system. Youll have to get use to the funny sound the blinker makes. Overall I highly recommend this car.

  • Focus ZX3 - 2005 Ford Focus

Took delivery of the second-least expensive version of the Focus available less than a month ago, a ZX3 S manual with air conditioning. With incentives, it had a no-haggle price of $11,062 (plus taxes, tags, and dealer charges). Toss in the cars roomy interior and great ride and handling, and the car seems like a winner. However, since we took delivery of the car, a problem with the manual transmission has appeared no fewer than five times, requiring three trips to the dealer that have yet to solve the problem. Hopefully this and any other problems with the car arent widespread. Shoppers: its worth counting on that to get what is probably the best small-car buy out there.

  • Great Kid Car - 2005 Ford Focus

Bought this car for our 17 year old. Chose a new low cost car vs used few year old car. Really is fun to drive, great on gas and yes, very reliable for those "Ill be home when the mall closes" evenings. Found we all use the car for that quick trip down to the store.

  • Awesome car - 2005 Ford Focus

This is a good dependable car that has the sport compact feel and excellent European handling. Great gas mileage, almost 35 miles to the gallon is what I get.

I traded in an Explorer for this to get better gas mileage. This is a great, fun little car. I enjoy the handling, the Sony Stereo system and the overall performance of this econobox. I have noticed that the clutch is especially sensitive, so be ready for that. Also, I wish it had more front leg room. Other than that, I have no complaints for this vehicle.

  • Life with a Focus - 2005 Ford Focus

My Focus wagon with automatic transmission has a lot of good qualities. Its spunky, offers great driving visibility and has lots of storage room. Little things like the theater lighting are also nice. But, Im not very pleased with around- town gas mileage in the very low 20s. A 2005 car with a 2.0 liter engine, even with an auto transmission, should do a lot better than that. (My 94 Geo Prizm still gets 25-26 around town). And, I really dont like the European suspension. In New Jersey, we have way too many streets and highways that are in pretty poor condition. I really have fears that my Focus with get beaten or shaken to death way before its time.

  • Love my Focus! - 2005 Ford Focus

I used to own a Honda civic. When I got rid of that my husband brought me a Focus from the dealership he worked at. I drove it the first time and realized what better pick up it has and better get up and go for going up hills. The Honda seemed to struggle with hills but not my Focus! More comfortable for my long legs. Being 6 foot tall, its hard to find a comfortable car. The Focus fits me well with room behind me for somebody to sit.

  • Much better, our first was 2000 - 2005 Ford Focus

Great improvement all around, our first focus was a 2000 wagon. Especially in body fit and finish. All interior functions feel much higher in quality also. We love the economy and room inside. Better than all the other wagons we looked at.

  • Great for the price! - 2005 Ford Focus

Leasing the 05 ST. Good car, fun to drive. Sure there are better cars out there, but none with a lease as good as Fords.
