This Year's Model Updates:

The emissions-friendly 2.3-liter PZEV engine released in limited states in 2003 is now available as an option in all states (it comes standard in California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Maine). The only other notable changes to the 2004 Ford Focus are newly optional leather seating for ZX3 models, and a slightly revised suspension offers improved handling.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, spacious interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

    Sporty, affordable, reliable car...nice economic car to drive and it is really inexpensive on gas. It is a cute car that is roomy inside, and hsa great curves outside.

    I have had my ZX5 for less than 1 year and I have gone through 4 sets of brakes and 2 sets of rotors and drums. I have had it in for repairs more than I have actually had the vehicle in my possession. It has been in to have the brakes fixed 5 times, and they still have not found what the problem is. Now, on top of that, the transmission is starting to slip gears and shift extremely hard (it is an automatic, there just isnt an option for that in the choices). Now they are telling me that they have to completely rebuild my transmission. I would not recommend this car to anyone due to the poor quality and that Ford refuses to make any needed repairs.

    We love both our cars. People stopped us when we had our first one and when they first started coming out on the market and they loved the look and asked lots of questions. We save on gas, it handles well, plenty of room, can transport large objects in the back trunk area and you cant beat the price.

  • The Real SUV - 2004 Ford Focus

    This is a real sport utility vehicle. If you live in a large city like I do (Chicago) you need a car that can fit the smallest spot and can carry all of your things when engaging in your annual move to another apartment. The audiophile sound system is bar none and the exceleration for a sub 20K, 4 cylender car is exceptional. People may smerk when you have a focus (those that dont know what an SVT is) but when laying the smack down on an eclipse GTS, passengers soon realize that this focus is on roids.

  • Drivers Seat Design Flaw - 2004 Ford Focus

    I have a 2-door SVT and the only problem I have experienced is with the drivers seat. If you drive with the seat bottom raised up in the back, you have to remember to lower it if you pull the seat back forward to let someone in the back seat. Otherwise, over time it will rub a place in the lower seat cushion. The Ford dealership where I bought my SVT is replacing mine free of charge this time. The service writer at the dealership agreed it is a design flaw. Now all I have to do is tie a string around my finger and remember to lower the seat cushion when I have passengers for the back-seat. :}

  • Great car! - 2004 Ford Focus

    The focus is a great car with awesome handling, great steering feedback and(with the 2.3L engine) good performance even with an auto tranny. Its quite zippy, handles very well(mine has 16" wheels from the factory) and sips gas pretty good when not being abused. Round town I get about 27mpg and on the highway, i can get up to about 32mpg.

    With about 2000 miles on this car I have no quibbles. Quick, nimble, fun to drive. Decent mileage. Plenty of acceleration for city or highway. Fit and finish were very good. Not what I expected from an American made car. I first heard of this car when I drove one in Spain on a vacation. It was a diesel and I hadnt a clue (no telltale engine sounds, very peppy) until I went to fill it with gas and saw the diesel sticker. The handling of the American version is quite similar though. Really like it.

  • My first new car - 2004 Ford Focus

    I traded a 95 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 with a V8, that I owned for 7 1/2 years, for this car. So far Im not the least bit sorry. (Although, I might miss the truck when it snows again, mostly because I dont want to expose my new car to the road salt & sand.) I guess to anyone who might be leary of downsizing like I did, give it a shot. Youd be surprised at how powerful these little cars are.

  • I love my ZX3 - 2004 Ford Focus

    I recently bought a new 2004 Ford Focus ZX3, with the 2.0 liter Zetec engine and an automatic. After having driven a minivan for several years, it is so much fun to zip around in traffic in this car. The handling is awesome, especially considering the price. I bought it for nearly 4 grand off the sticker!I really like my Focus, although I wish for a little better gas mileage. Great car!
