  • Fun to drive but not well built - 2012 Ford Focus

The Ford Focus Titanium is a very sporty and fun to drive car. However I have had three manufacturers recalls, the transmission shudders, the sound system is poor. Most problems are covered under the warranty but because of known problems the car has three different warranties extending the warranties on drive train and electronics.

Ford Focus 2012 was sold to me as the new and improved version of the Ford compact cars. The car has a fair handling and an overall fair driving experience. After 3K miles, Im still waiting for the 28mpg - 31mpg promise. I only get 24mpg on a good day. And then there is the My Ford Touch, powered by Microsoft. That should have been my first clue that I was getting set up for disaster. Nothing really works, when it comes to multitasking. I cant make a call without freezing the system. If I play the ipod (when it works) the bluetooth goes off. I have 19 separate video clips of all the malfunctions this car has.

My new Titanium with the handeling package is an amazing value for money! The car is rock-solid in every driving situation, especially so on secondary roads with those choppy sections where heavy trucks tear up the surface on curves. My 10 Focus SES was very jumpy in those spots, and this car just glides through. It is "scary quiet" on the open road. The summer tires are the stickiest things Ive ever driven; but I live in NE Pennsylvania, so I got a set of winter tires for the cold season (Mich Pilot Aspins), and they are just as amazing. The transmission is first rate (I dont understand all the negative chatter Ive read). Pleanty of power; gutsy acceleration. Contd below...

I have driven my Focus about 4000 miles now, and Ive gotten to love it better than when new. This is a very solidly built car made out of high quality materials. It handles great and I enjoy flinging it around corners with abandon. My other car is a Porsche and around town the Focus is at least its equal in handling. I also use the Focus for my 50 mile r/t commute and on the last 3 tanks it has gotten 33, 35, and now 37 honest-to-goodness mpg. I have noticed that the mileage and smoothness of the transmission improved greatly over the last 1000 miles. The upgrade to MyFordTouch solved virtually all the issues with that, not that I had many to begin with.

Ive had the car for a month; it replaced a 2007 Mazda3 and I also previously owned a 2007 Focus. This car is worlds apart from the 2007 Focus. The shifting is buttery smooth; good power, good fuel economy (averaged 36 mpg on recent 800 mile road trip). The car feels "stiff" and this is a good thing; it holds corners amazingly well, very little sway. This actually takes a little getting used to if you havent driven a car that handles as well. Its very quiet, much quieter than the Mazda3. The drivers cockpit feels like it wraps around you. A very well thought out, good performing vehicle, especially for the price point!

  • 2012 Ford Focus- dont buy. - 2012 Ford Focus

My car has transmission problems. Every single time I start and stop the car shudders and hesitates. The car is unsafe to drive. Also the cars cruise control broke within 3 months of owning the car, it was fixed and then broke again a month later. And hasnt worked in 2 years. This car is junk. I have taken it to three different ford dealerships and they refused to fix the problem. They would tell me there was nothing wrong with the transmission it was the way I drive. Every time I took it in for the cruise control Ford would tell me that they were unable to fix the problem because the cruise was working that day, when it never worked for me. They refused to fix the problems and I finally ran out of a warranty and gave up. I dont have the money to pay to have this car fixed when I bought a brand new car I college to not have to worry about getting work done to a car. This has been the biggest disappointment and I just want them to be recalled. Ford owes it to all the customers that are currently stuck with this car and paying big money for a car that doesnt work. I dont not feel safe allowing my family in the car because it is too dangerous to drive. It stresses me out on a daily basis having to drive this car and never knowing when its going to stop working. I have been having these problems since I bought the car in July of 2012.

  • transmission troubles - 2012 Ford Focus

I have >9,000 miles on my 2012 Focus with the dual-clutch automatic. I am not bothered by the backward roll on hill starts or the pulsing from dead stop, but it does have some real issues. 4 times now, driving in the S mode, when rolling through a low speed right turn then hitting the gas, all I get are revs and no power. I have to drive in S mode at low speed, because the shift points of the D mode are too low rpm (for max fuel economy no doubt) and the car shudders before it downshifts when given the gas. Also the tranny makes a lot of clatter noise in the 1-2 and 3-4 transitions, while being smooth as silk in all others.

Bought the car with 30,000 miles. Only good thing about it is gas. It has major transmission problems has been to dealership 5-6 for this issue only in 2yrs that I have owned it. Car stereo wouldnt go off no matter what I did, problems with the car horn and steering wheel locked up twice, once this last year took In to ford and again this year. The car has gear problems and they want $1600. Its not a safe car and expensive repair costs plus it doesnt drive good. Please dont fall for the looks, its totally not worthy it!!

  • Bought Brand New no problems except for recall - 2012 Ford Focus

I bought this car in 2012 brand new. SE Sports & Winter Package. Great, reliable car. Only problem has been the transmission recall that my local dealership took care of (even though it took 3 visits). Has never stalled on me and starts great every time.

  • Love my new Focus SE Sedan - 2012 Ford Focus

I just picked up my New Focus Sedan in Sterling Metallis Grey with a 5 speed manual tranny and the 203A package. Including 2500 in rebates final price 15,775.00. I cant imagine another car with all these features , ( look up 203A package) for a better price and it handles and drives better than my wifes 28,000.00 Camry. This car is comfortable, stylish, well made and an absolute blast to drive. The interior is well laid out and very comfortable. The ride is excellent and very quiet. Try one before you purchase a simular size car and Im betting youll choose the Focus. Looks alone inside and out have that European feel and remember most of this car was designed in Germany and built in Mich.
