This Year's Model Updates:

Raising the bar for compact vehicles, Ford is offering its stability system -- called AdvanceTrac -- on ZTS Sedans and ZX3 Hatchbacks. Ford has also made previously optional features standard equipment. Highlights include a driver armrest on every model except LX and power windows on SE Sedans and Wagons. SE Wagons also get the Zetec engine as standard and can be ordered with a manual transmission. A new manual moonroof is offered on the ZX3 and new 16-inch wheels are standard on ZTS Sedans and optional on ZX3 Coupes.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful and large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, good selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:
  • Lots of suspension movement, not enough low-end grunt, polarizing styling.

  • SAVE YOURSELF!!!! - 2001 Ford Focus

Purchased a used Focus in early November 2002. By Thanksgiving, it was in the shop for a belt, plugs and wires. By Christmas it needed a new steering rack. (Can I just say no car with less than 150K miles needs a new STEERING RACK???) I fear what will happen next with this car. Also, the car has ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE once you drive it off the lot -- three long, long months of ownership has devalued the car by nearly $4000. Now I cant even trade the thing away. Gas mileage is nothing special - I expected more from a car this small. Overall, I should have kept my 95 Nissan Pick- up. They have about the same gas mileage, and I would still have 4WD.

    First rate small car.

  • The BEST 4 Cyl. car I have ever driven! - 2001 Ford Focus

I really enjoy this car! I was kinda skeptical at first because it was a 4 Cyl. I had driven a 4 Cyl before and it had NO get up and go. This car blows that truck out of the water!

  • Wont do this again... - 2001 Ford Focus

I was not very happy with this vehicle whatsoever. It seems like I had everything happen to this vehicle. Side mirrors just simply fell off for no apparent reason. Alignment went off consistently. Transmission went out ($3000). To be honest I NEVER felt comfortable getting into it because I was always worried it would fall apart. Very fun vehicle to drive when it actually ran.

  • What a lemon! - 2001 Ford Focus

This is by far the worst car Ive ever owned. I bought the car used in February with 114k on it and little by little this car is starting to fall apart because a month after I bought it my A/C compressor went then after that my Pistons on my engine bent it left me stranded on the side of the road while I was on my way to work. And now I have a leak in my power steering fluid tank which was causing my car to smoke up so bad that people on the road next to me kept on starring thinking that my car was gonna just explode so they just kept on moving away. So basically I been at mechanics more then Ive been on the road. This car was a very bad choice its like problem after problem. In the beginning I thought it was a nice looking car with low mileage I was wrong and now Im just ready to junk it Lol. Too many problems for 123K

Roomy and comfortable, excellent handling, peppy. Have driven mine 20000 miles with zero problems. Fit and finish is excellent.

My Ford Focus ZX3 is a fun to drive car. It handles excellently and has a bit of European flair in its hatchback design. I can also load all kinds of stuff in it. However the reliability is sketchy.Numerous recalls, recalls that were fixed seem to have the same problem creep up again(Battery cable was changed only to melt again). The brand new ones now come with 10/100,000 Powertrain warranty, but I wish mine had that because I think the new ones have the bugs worked out while mine still has the bugs. A shame since this car is truely a joy to drive and its versitility is great!

  • not so impressive - 2001 Ford Focus

So far, the power steering went out, the turn signal broke two times, the remote trunk release inside the car is hit or miss and something electrical causes a back light/turn signal bulb to burn out every month or so lately.

This car has been a piece of junk since day 1. Transmission problems, shifter problems, power window problems. An on going problem with the trunk not staying closed. Been back to the incompetant liars at Bill Marine Ford about 15 times in 1 and a half years. Cant wait to get a Honda!

  • Id buy another - 2001 Ford Focus

This is a great, fun car for $15,000. Ive had this car for two and a half years, and if I stay in this price bracket for my next vehicle, Ill definitely consider another Focus. In fact, I may just keep this one (rather than trading it in) as a toy to tweak and play with. I compared this to a Grand Am and a Cavalier, but the Focus offered more for less money. Two thumbs up to Ford this time around.
