This Year's Model Updates:

Raising the bar for compact vehicles, Ford is offering its stability system -- called AdvanceTrac -- on ZTS Sedans and ZX3 Hatchbacks. Ford has also made previously optional features standard equipment. Highlights include a driver armrest on every model except LX and power windows on SE Sedans and Wagons. SE Wagons also get the Zetec engine as standard and can be ordered with a manual transmission. A new manual moonroof is offered on the ZX3 and new 16-inch wheels are standard on ZTS Sedans and optional on ZX3 Coupes.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful and large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, good selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:
  • Lots of suspension movement, not enough low-end grunt, polarizing styling.

  • Focus is Fun - 2001 Ford Focus

Very satisfied with this vehicle. Formerly owned a 1990 acura integra and drove it until 130K miles ended its life. The Acura was fun to drive and I didnt think this little Ford could even come close but I was wrong. Handles incredibly, very responsive for a compact car, great sound system, very roomy. One thing I find disappointing are the front seats, they are uncomfortable on long trips.

  • This car has to many problems - 2001 Ford Focus

This car has cost more to fix parts that are defective then a my old 85 truck. Very unreliable.

  • Reliable and Fun - 2001 Ford Focus

After over 9000 miles my car hasnt had 1 problem. Its very smooth, comfy, and a pleasure to drive. Acceleration is sufficient and handling tight. Biggest problem is rear visibility; just make sure you look over your shoulder!

  • Build Quality an Issue - 2001 Ford Focus
    By -

2001, bad year for the Focus. Build quality issues. Simple things like rivets and screws, failing or missing entirely. 36,000 mile warranty not near enough for scary quality issues. Fuel economy is not as advertised. Expect 20-25mpg, not 30+.

  • Great Car - 2001 Ford Focus

There has been some bad stuff in the press about this car, but dont let that fool you. (Just ask Car and Driver, which the focus has been in the 10 best 4 years in a row) I am amazed at the quality and driving fun this car is for the money. 140k and going strong.

  • Love It - 2001 Ford Focus

I love my focus. I bought it used with 9000 miles and it is now at 36000 have had no major problems and only minor things that where covered ie: spark plug wires and a belt. Take care of this care and it will take care of you. I do all my oil changes and follow the maintance schedule to a T. The best car Ive owned.

  • If I knew then what I know now - 2001 Ford Focus

Ive had a love/hate relationship with this car. Its been at the dealership 15 times for all kinds of repairs. I cant get rid of it, since its resale value is really low. I am stuck with a car I dont want. Ford put a bitter taste in my mouth. I think newer models are much better.

  • Quality and engine disappoints - 2001 Ford Focus
    By -

I have driven over 25k miles in my ZTS. Problems so far included: squeaky dash replaced at 5k, squeaky rear brakes replaced at 17k, broken alternator at 17k, seized rear wheel bearing at 23k. Current problem is with too low idle - engine almost died a few times. Persistent problem is weak engine in hot-dry weather.

  • I enjoy my car - 2001 Ford Focus
    By -

I really like this car. I spend a lot of time comparing it to it competitors, and found that it is the best car for the money. I find it very fun to drive, and a very comfortable car.
