Overview & Reviews
The emissions-friendly 2.3-liter PZEV engine released in limited states in 2003 is now available as an option in all states (it comes standard in California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Maine). The only other notable changes to the 2004 Ford Focus are newly optional leather seating for ZX3 models, and a slightly revised suspension offers improved handling.
- Thoughtful ergonomics, spacious interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

Focus is junk - 2004 Ford Focus
By Sharon Kemp - October 18 - 10:48 amThis car has mechanical problems. The front stablizer link went bad at 30,000 miles along with the wiper motor &cooling sensor. At 50,000 miles the doors would lock when the car was not running & would not let me back in,neither with the key or the remote. The gages would flip and wig out when it rained. The car would jump out of gear and down shift and the gear shift would not move out of gear.Loud knocking noise coming the front and re end. When I would take it to the Ford dealership they could never find any problems when they would drive it,but How could they hear anything when the AC would be on full blast and the radio on.They thought I was Crazy. So I bought a Toyota

Decent and fun to drive! - 2004 Ford Focus
By Roen - October 9 - 10:25 pmIve had my 2004 Focus ZX3 for a little over a year now and so far no problems. Ive heard Ford had fixed all the problems in the previous model year Foci into the 2004 models and its pretty obvious. The 2.3L PZEV engine is very torquey at low RPM ranges, around 3,000 rpms, which is practically everyday RPM ranges. Very smooth ride, nice interior, and beautiful styling. Fuel economy isnt as great for a car this size, however. I calculated an average 26 mpg city/highway driving, which is what youd expect from a larger vehicle like an SUV. But the 2004 Focus is an overall great car to drive thats actually more reliable than the previous model year Foci.

Designer almost 100% satisfied - 2004 Ford Focus
By Jim Ginter - October 9 - 10:00 amMy wife was looking for a new car and evolved to VW, BMW and Audi. Im hard core Ford and just couldnt seem to really get into her choices. Then one day I saw this Focus ZX3 SVT at the Ford dealer. We took it for a test run and fell totally in love. Great driving experience. But she doesnt like the looks. Fronts great. Wheel well treatment and profile lack sporty appeal. Overall all call it a hi- profile go-cart that got cut short.

Major Pluses, Minor Changes - 2004 Ford Focus
By Gene oborny - August 28 - 10:00 amMy 2003 Focus SE does incredibly well in the mountains, climbing long inclimes up to 80 mph. It does handles well in the city as well as on the interstate for long trips. One minor change: give it an adjustable steering column for ease of entry for us big guys.

By cwolf - August 28 - 10:00 amFun to Drive,Ive had many people comment on how much they like it.Ive only had minor problems,Blown out headlight,Bad gas cap.I drive my ZX5 hard,Handles good for an economy car,Ok in snow driving conditions,Straight line performance is good for a 4cyl economy car.Overall I am very happy with my Focus, I would even go as far to say that I would buy another one.

My pocket-rocket economy car - 2004 Ford Focus
By shoperX - August 28 - 10:00 amThe Focus European heritage is evident when I hear the "thunk" when I close the doors, and when I zip up to 40mph on Sunset Blvd in a flash. The only time I need 1st gear is when leaving a standing stop uphill. It is so quit that Ive trained myself to look at the tach before turning the key. Is this an economy car?
