Car is getting excellent gas mpg, better than anticipated--between 35 and 40+ mph on a regular basis. This is why I bought the car! Began to achieve this mileage when I learned to let the transmission do its job and not push the gear shifting or having a lead foot when starting from a full stop. My Sync: it took a little while & reading manual several times to figure out button pushing sequence. Car has great luxurious features and solid feel. Only two complaints: (1) Cant place headrest down flush to seat top or tilt it back; (2) Sometimes feel a small vibration from underneath in 2nd gear--need to get that checked out.

So I am just going to say this outright (and this is coming from someone that had owned 6 Fords in 13 years) this car has turned me away from Ford Motor Company. When I bought it, I traded a perfectly good 2010 Focus SE. I really wish I hadnt done that. Sure, the car is pretty fun to drive and it gets pretty great gas mileage but the transmission just puts a dark cloud over all of that. I have had it in the shop 5 times for transmission issues. Fortunately, they have all been covered repairs. One of these episodes left us on the side of the road during our Memorial Day 2015 weekend trip. Its a good thing the breakdown happened just outside of our hometown and our dealership is awesome (always gave me a free loaner). I am having issues with the transmission again and this time I am out of the extended warranty for the vehicle. According to my service advisor, the cost of repair is somewhere in the neighborhood of $1600. Along with those issues, there is a really annoying clunky sounding rattle coming from the rear door. I cannot figure out what it is. Also since almost the beginning of its life, there have been multiple rattles (seems to come from around the headliner). I am trying to get into another vehicle but the value pretty sad and I will have to roll negative equity into a new loan.

Just received my SEL Hatchback, I opted for the 301A, Nav, Winter Package, and Remote Start. This car is driving me crazy. So many pros and then a few super annoying cons that have completely ruined this new car experience and have me wishing I had gone elsewhere.

Basic gas saver with no frills......poor quality interior with mostly plastic components! Stock Radio is absolutely awful! Good gas saver on the road.

Im not sure why everybody hates these cars so much or why theyre all having problems. We bought ours used with 36,000 miles on it. We werent too excited about getting it because of all the problems we had heard about, but this was the only choice we had and we needed a new car. When we first bought it, it was awesome. It drives so smooth. It has an awesome stereo, great interior quality, overall just an awesome car. Weve had it for a while and its a daily driver between my fiance and I. We havent experienced any problems with it. Nothing with the transmission or anything else, its still driving like the day we bought it. Its amazing on gas too. Its a great car and I would recommend it to anyone. The only problems Ive found in it is that its a little on the small side, especially in the backseat and the lack of storage sucks. Other wise, its the best car we have ever owned. We bought it used from a dealership in Ohio and we have a 5 year - 150,000 mile, bumper to bumper warranty so if something does break, its completely covered, but I dont think anything is going too. You have to remember that this is a Ford Focus and not a sports car. I think some of the people having the problems arent treating their car the way that they should be. I think a lot of people complaining about the transmission also dont realize that its a "Electronic Controlled Automatic" but is actually a" Dual-Clutch Manual Transmission". If youve ever driven a manual, you know how it feels, BUT we havent noticed it feeling like a manual. It feels exactly like an automatic should. I came from a 5-Speed Mitsubishi Eclipse before this Focus so I know what a manual feels like and our Focus doesnt drive anything like that so I dont why everybody seems to be having problems. If youre looking for a good car, quick and nimble, great on gas, and an awesome stereo, check out the Ford Focus.

  • Dangerous transmission - 2012 Ford Focus

I bought a 2012 Ford Focus in November 2015. I was very happy because my old car was a 2000 Ford Focus. It is very sporty and nice looking. I was driving on HWY 30 from the grocery store when it just stopped. Everyone behind me was honking and whizzing by me. I was scared to death. I didnt know what to do. I prayed to God and then I got the idea to shut it off and re start it. It was very slow and I got a notice that I had a transmission malfunction and to fix it NOW. I could have been killed. Ford please take care of this problem.

I purchased my Focus after driving many other compact cars. The Focus exceeded all my expectations. I dont think I would have ever considered the Focus, until I started reading the reviews about it. Ford really has done an amazing job building and designing this car. The car feels extremely solid, drives exceptionally well, is very comfortable, and economical. The engine is very smooth, and the auto clutch tranny shifts crisply, especially in the "s" mode. The manual shifting option is on the gear selector, I would prefer a steering wheel mounted paddle.

Ive had this car for over a month now (1250 miles) and love how well it handles. I love the manual trans and Im comming from a BMW 328 CI manual! Gas milage is edging up with every fill up. Now avg 29 - 30 mpg only because it is fun to push it around corners and thru traffic. Very comfortable, quiet and user friendly. Sports package is a must! Its still new enough in my area to draw stares, smiles and an occasional nod. So far looks to be a great choise!
