The emissions-friendly 2.3-liter PZEV engine released in limited states in 2003 is now available as an option in all states (it comes standard in California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Maine). The only other notable changes to the 2004 Ford Focus are newly optional leather seating for ZX3 models, and a slightly revised suspension offers improved handling.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, spacious interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

  • A lot of car for the $ and fun to drive - 2004 Ford Focus

I have the ZTS model which offers an incredible amount of power. The pickup is outstanding. The car handles like a much smaller vehicle; it hugs the corners and takes on unforegiving roadways remarkably. I have both a Japanese small car and then this car. The Focus has turned out to be a reliable, economical and outstanding on gas vehicle. I would recommend it in a heartbeat---particularly for someone who does not want to spend a ton of money.

  • The SVTF is a hoot - 2004 Ford Focus

I purchased my SVT Focus new with 67 miles on the clock in 8/04. As of 1/08, its now at nearly 70k miles. While I cant say theyve been entirely trouble free, the Focus has never left me stranded. All of its foibles have been superficial. Right now it has no issues other then steering wheel wobble at freeway speeds, and even thats not too bad. Performance is superior 0-60 mph in about 8 secs, and up to 34 mpg on the hwy are both legit numbers Ive acheived. Being a hatchback has also helped, such as when I fit an entire kitchen table with the seats folded. Overall, great car for the money, and no regrets in purchasing it.

I love my SVT Ford Focus! I was dissappointed that Ford didnt continue to produce this car, so I traded my 2002 in on a 2004. Both cars have exceeded my expectations. Every color on this car looks good, although Sonic Blue is my favorite. There is no bad version of the SVT Focus.

This vehicle has great driving ability, I do not know about its reliablity because of the fact that I have not owned it, but just under 3 months.

  • Drive like Schumacher for under 20K - 2004 Ford Focus

The SVT Focus is hands down the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel of a street car. Ive been the owner of a 300ZX TT and a Supra TT and for a time I drove a Renault Clio V6 Sport on a daily basis. While all of them are faster, none of them have been more fun. While the car does has some weak areas, it certainly makes up for them with its suspension, gearing, and overall connection with the road.

Purchased this wagon Jan. 04. Have 2 main concerns for this vehicle. Fuel economy has been on low side, have filled up 2 times since delivery and have only averaged 24 mpg with a majority of driving done on highway around 60-65 mph. Will wait and see on this as vehicle "breaks in". The luggage rack only comes with two longitudal bars on either side of vehicle, cross bars must be purchased from Ford to complete assembly. Kind of like buying laceup shoes with laces extra. Otherwise OK.
