This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

  • Good Deal over 2 years into it - 2002 Ford Focus

We bought this car as a second car then our larger oldsmobile died. It is now our primary car for our family of four. We put alot of miles on it and do alot of city driving. It has run well, only problem was with the battery cable. It handles well, as fun as it did when we first bought it. We have driven many long trips with the car and have no problems. We purchased a car top carrier from Sears and a rack to hold it from thule. That has worked great. For the money this is a great car. Would I buy another one, yep without a doubt. I love the economy of it.

My car has been in the shop over 12 times in the past 6 months for the ignition switch problem, leaky trunk and squeaky breaks. Ford cant fix the ignition problem. Ive now contacted the Attorney General.

  • Fun little car for most seasons - 2002 Ford Focus

Fun to drive, decent gas mileage, and well thought out interior. The traction control is great to have in MN winters. Although I thought the rear seat leg room was supposed to be decent, it really isnt. Dont plan on driving too many adults in the back seat for very long. The only real problems I have had so far are a "check engine" light on for no apparent reason at 18,000 miles, and problems with the tires. The stock tires on the ZTW just arent too good for wet and/or snowy roads. Ill be replacing them as soon as I can. Im thankful I have traction control, or the tires would be next to worthless in the winter.

  • My First New Car - 2002 Ford Focus

This is my first new car, and was the "weekend special" found in the newspaper. Listed at 11,400 in the paper, which included 1400 in rebates. The 400-dollar college rebate did not apply to me, so I got it at 11,800. I was amazed at how easy the sale was. All the staff there were extremely helpful, and went out of their way to make it as painless as possible.

  • after a year of ownership... - 2002 Ford Focus

Very fun daily commuter. Attacks the twisties with willful abandon. For a naturally aspirated motor the power is adequate. Have had numerous issues with warrantee items...dual stage intake, exaust rattles, interior leak, mainly integrity issues, and lots of check engine lights. Meticulous owners may expect to visit dealers more often than they would like. Very aftermarket friendly for performance/apperance upgrades.

  • fast but not reliable - 2002 Ford Focus

my 2002 svt is faster than any honda i have raced so far but i have had my audiophile cd player replaced 3 times since i purchased the car. performance wise, the car has exceded my expectations but quality wise the car is falling apart. i am yet to lose a race but my car spends half its time at the dealership getting fixed.
