Raising the bar for compact vehicles, Ford is offering its stability system -- called AdvanceTrac -- on ZTS Sedans and ZX3 Hatchbacks. Ford has also made previously optional features standard equipment. Highlights include a driver armrest on every model except LX and power windows on SE Sedans and Wagons. SE Wagons also get the Zetec engine as standard and can be ordered with a manual transmission. A new manual moonroof is offered on the ZX3 and new 16-inch wheels are standard on ZTS Sedans and optional on ZX3 Coupes.

• Thoughtful and large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, good selection of body configurations and features.

• Lots of suspension movement, not enough low-end grunt, polarizing styling.

  My ZX3 is a great vehicle - 2001 Ford Focus

  I bought this vehicle new in 2001 (Focus ZX3 hatchback 5-speed manual with no air conditioning or electric windows). This is the best car Ive ever owned. We now have over 225,000 miles on the car with little maintenance. By keeping up on the oil changes/tune-ups, weve had no major issues other than changing out the ignition once while it was still under warranty. Great mpg (30-40 avg overall) I mostly drive freeway. Were considering buying a 2013 as a replacement vehicle for our 2000 Focus SE sedan (bought it used automatic w/electric everything it has too many issues now at 180,000 mi). The ZX3 is a wonderful car. I would recommend the version I purchased. Its a keeper!

  Well I own my 2001 Focus for almost 7 yrs never lets me down even if theres a problem with the car . I have this car overheat like 5 times, the problem the my car have is the radiator thats about it . This car have 19,000k and still good as new fast motor. Thats the good thing about a good motor the is been taken good care! Love your Focus!

  Self-employed, bought for everyday driving needs, performed well, had to replace bought front coils springs, and two power window motors, but other than that - excellent value! Way to go Ford!

  I just bought a 2001 Ford focus Se Wagon. I love this car. Only has 117,000 miles on it! My boyfriend is always very excited to drive it. His car is a year newer but is a Pontiac and he would Rather drive mine instead! I absolutely love this car.

  As I approach 200,000 miles on this car I have no regrets, except it replaced a beloved 20 year old Fiesta.Aside from regular service it is only now having more issues, but I am only thinking of replacing it with one of the last years the hatchback was available. My car was rare and special, I ordered it with stability control, 4 wheel disc and ABS and traction control. With snows it performed superb in winter driving. Even 10 years old, the styling is undated. The car had a solid build, compared to many Fords in its day, and even with all the miles the car looks new. Excellent fuel economy, dependable, I would recommend to anyone.

  Whew! Great car! Weve only had it for a few months, but there have been absolutly no problems. We did have a couple of warantee issues, but they were very minor gripes. One of concern was a tire shimmy/balance issue. Suprisingly the dealer replaced the tire (Firestone) for no charge and the problem was improved.

  Very reliable & very good on gas I always said I hated this car b/c I didnt like the look of the hatchback, but it never gave me any problems. I commuted to work 4hrs a day for over a year and never once had any issues. Was recently in a very bad car accident where I was hit at full highway speed by a Chevy Silverado (thats a big truck compared to my little hatchback), my car was totaled, but I lived. I would have to say they are built very well. As much as I hated the look of this car, I might have to buy another b/c I know theyre safe.

  Bought this new in 2001 and now use it as a second car. Much more fun to drive than my Camry. Takes the Western Pa hills and curves with ease. Very reliable. Only had to replace the spark plug wires after about 70,000 miles.
