  • Exceeded my expectations - 2015 Ford F-150

    The truck has the base 3.5L V-6 and the acceleration is quite good and overall fuel economy is 20-21 mpg! It is the XL trim level with manual windows and locks. For vinyl seats they are very comfortable. The power steering gives a good feel of the road and the brakes are awesome. I love the telescoping/tilt steering wheel, great idea. I like the blind spot side view mirrors, they are quite nice! The rear seats are roomy enough but nowhere near the crew cab. Plenty of room for groceries and moderate size items. The gauge cluster is useful and easy to read.

    The 2015 F-150 is plain out awesome. Ford engineers out did themselves with the redesign of this truck. From the aluminum body to the engine choices, this is one high tech machine. The 5.0L engine has brass ones compared to the 5.4 in my previous truck. It sounds sweet too! The interior is superior to any other truck out there. Its super comfy but also designed for the working person. No chintzy little buttons here. Its a work horse disguised as a luxury vehicle. Ive always owned Ford trucks. I had my last F-150 for 14 years. No body rot or major issues when I traded it for the 2015. Actually the only reason I still dont have it is because I fell in love with the 2015 model and just had to have one. I have no doubt it will last me just as long...if not longer.

    Purchased a 2015 Ford F150 XL Ecoboost 4x4 Sport ten months ago. Within the first two months, on my way to work in the woods, every light on the panel lit up. Truck went into "limp mode". After taking over an hour to get home (I was only about 20 minutes away), I called roadside assistance and set up for a tow to the dealer. Tow truck came within an hour and off to the dealer we went. I was given a loaner and told, "well call you when we know whats wrong". Days pass and after no call from the dealer, I called them to see what was wrong with my new truck. They said, "Nothing, no lights came on". I got real upset because I knew they didnt even drive the truck. I asked how did they come to that conclusion? They said, "the computer shows no codes". Now I went off and told them Ill be right there and your service manager will go for a test drive with me. They said no, theyll take it out. Two hours later they called me to tell me my truck has a serious problem that it did in fact "code up" while being driven. They told me they needed to order a very hard to get part; a Throttle Body". A bit of history with Ford and the bad Throttle Body parts they use. In 2013, after numerous customer complaints, NHTSA went after Ford for their use of bad Throttle Body parts. In short, they did a "Customer Satisfaction Program" and replaced the defective Throttle body parts, and extended the warranty on the part. NHTSA NEVER made FORD do a formal recall even though thousands of cars and different models were affected. The "Customer Satisfaction Program" expired in November 2015, but guess what? Yup, Ford continues to use the defective parts in their new vehicles. My F150, my friends Explorer, my other friends Edge, all had Throttle Body failure soon after purchasing new vehicles. I wish I did this research before I bought the truck, but knew nothing about the Throttle Body issue to look into it. Now, month 10, the transmission is failing and fast. I stop at a light, give it gas to go and BANG followed by a jerk. Took it to the dealer, and since they couldnt get a "code", they said no problem. You are to drive it until its dead and must be towed in. Not very reliable. Last weekend, Columbus Day, I took the loss and got rid of it. Traded it in and went back to my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4x4 that never gave me a problem. NEVER, ever for Ford again.

    Great truck with a peppy efficient engine, the 2.7L engine is surprisingly powerful and extremely quick off the line, I love the engine on this truck! I average a little over 21 MPG with mixed freeway and around town driving conditions. I have tried to be excessively light on the accelerator but have not even close to the advertised 23-24 MPG, they must have done the MPG testing where there are no hills, wind, and on any engine that was well broken in. Overall though I really like the truck. The one thing that could use improvement is the instruments. Climate control could have a digital read out ( ex. 72) versus hotter/colder. Browsing on the radio ( Sirius in particular) is a little clumsy. The dash seems to have a lot of unnecessary buttons. My biggest complaint is the autostart button, just plain annoying and screams replacement starter in 2 years. To have and turn it off every time you start the truck is silly, they should have a permanent off option. Overall pretty small complaints for for what has been a great truck. 7/25/2016- had to get the door handle replaced, it literally just fell off. Ford was quick to replace at no cost. Very happy with the way they handled it. Considered selling for better MPG vehicle with new job change, but I am completely upside down. The truck is worth considerably less than I paid for it, definitely does not hold value like my Toyota did. If you buy this truck be prepared to keep it since value tanks very quickly.

    2015 re-design is superb! Platinum runs and handles fantastic! The interior quality and layout is very user friendly, very comfortable! The exterior is solid and flawless, ride and handling is superior to any truck and most cars I have owned or driven. I highly recommend this truck to anyone who is thinking about a new or pre-owned purchase!!

    I came off a lifetime of chevys with two being trucks. The last silverado I owned (2003) the frame rusted out at 84,000 miles. Couldnt get it inspected. I dont know what happened. Same garage, roads, and care as my tahoe that had double the mileage and three years older but no problems. Anyway.... This vehicle is quiet, has nice ammenities in the interior. I tell people "Its like driving my living room." The fit and finish are very good. Mileage after 12,000 miles is consistently (calculated by hand) 20.5-21.5 mpg. When I pull my cargo trailer it drops to 12.5 but its not the weight, its the wind. The trailer is v-nosed but tall. The v8 is reliable and seems plenty powerful. The only issue is that when using cruise control on hilly areas it downshifts sort of hard to drop the speed. Then again I dont use cruise control much on hilly areas. Ive driven it a lot around town and taken trips that put 5000 miles on it in a few short weeks. Great vehicle so far. I learned to hate my Silverado. I love this truck and so hope not to learn to hate it. Time will tell. BTW.. this one is getting a yearly dose of Krown undercoating.

    Every few years my boss will replace my company truck with a new one. He is a die hard Ford fan going all the way back to something GM did to him back in the 70s. Because of that I have gone through the last 3 generations of the F150 (2003, 2010 and now the 2015). My job requires a truck, but it doesnt require me to use it to haul much very often. About once or twice a month I will move product around in excess of 1000-1200 lbs and maybe as much as 4000 lbs including a trailer. My first trip with a load was with 1200 miles on the odometer. It was a personal trip from KC to Ohio to pick up a car I purchased. It was an old Monte Carlo (3300lbs) and I used a dolly to pull it back. 99% of the trip was across I70. Within just a few miles of picking up the car I got my first scare. I was on a two lane going about 50-55 mph and came around a gentle right hand corner with a group of trees blocking my view all the way through the corner. Part way through I realized there was a raised RR track coming up and I needed to slow down. I probably had a half mile but was taking it pretty easy getting used to the feel of the car and dolly behind me. I applied the brake to start slowing up the truck while still coming around the corner slightly. The truck felt like the back tires came of the ground! It pushed over to the left as if I was on a patch of ice. My first thought was that I made a big miscalculation and the car was to heavy for the truck. The tow capacity for my truck is supposed to be 7600 lbs as optioned though. The hole trip home was a bit nerve racking. I got used to the trucks response to the weight behind it and figured out that the biggest issue was turning. The rear suspension is so soft that any side load pushes the truck in a manner that would make you think you have two flat tires on the back. It a straight line, it feels much better, although still very soft. I was not filled with confidence and conceded to the fact that I was going to be making a slow trip home in the right lane with the cruise set at 60-65 mph max. It was very slow going anytime I came into a city or road construction. I had to make sure to give myself plenty of room so as not to need to make any emergency maneuvers as I was positive the truck would not tolerate it. I ended that trip wondering if it was the car, the trailer, or something else that caused the truck to be so squirrelly. Since then Ive used the truck a few time with and without a trailer to move different size loads round KC for work. On one occasion I had a new Honda Rubicon fourwheeler in the back. What Ive learned is that anything over 300, maybe 400 pounds depending on how its loaded in the bed of the truck, and about 1200 lbs trailer weight turns the truck into a big mush box. It is always fine in a straight line, but feels like it wants to slide out or tip over if you go around a corner that gets a little tight on the highway. My feeling is that FORD has worked so hard to make the F150 a comfortable daily driver that they have gotten to far away from the truck actually being a safe truck to use for work. The suspension is tuned to be soft and that makes it weak when you put a load on it. The ecoboost engine (2.7) that I have is very strong and responsive if you call on it to provide that. I was supposed to get something like 18-19 mpg overall. Not even close. The Ford gauge likes to tell me Im getting 17, but it is incorrect. If you calculate the mileage, you typically get between 1 and 1.5 mpg less then the gauge states. My current overall average of mixed driving is 16.3. If you really work hard at it, and I mean work hard, you can squeeze out 18mg out of a tank. The aluminum body is noisy. The roof makes all sorts of noise in the wind on the hwy. Sounds like a metal HVAC duct popping as it heats up when your heater turns on in the winter. Except it isnt one pop, its multiples. And at around 10k miles on the truck, the bed starting making a popping sound when I drive over and uneven surface such as pulling in or out of my drive. The F150 is no longer a worthwhile truck in my opinion. Its loaded with neat features and the cab is comfortable. There are more electronics then every before that I am concerned about based off of previous experience (Ford electronics seem to have a short life expectancy for some reason). The cost of this truck compared to others was quite high. Insurance cost went up about 25% because of the aluminum body. If I was making the decision and it was my money, the truck that replaces this one will not be a Ford.

  • 1st and last Ford i will ever buy!! - 2015 Ford F-150

    i have always been a GM guy. But when I went to buy a new truck in December of 2015, I decided to be un-bias and drive all the half ton pick up trucks on the market. Then make my purchase based on exterior styling, interior comfort and design, performance, and mpg ratings. Well to be honest I liked the FORD F-150. So I bought the truck brand new with 9 miles on it. XLT Sport 2wd with 302A interior. Loved the truck. Then at 2800 miles my driver side ball joint came off and my truck was sitting on its driver front tire and rim. Luckily for Ford I had just exited the freeway to get a bottle of water and some sunflower seeds. I am an outside salesman, so I drive a lot. Well when backing out of my parking spot at the gas station it broke off. So I call ford and they tow it to the dealership I bought it from which was about 10 miles away. No problem yet. When I get to the dealership the tell me I have to pay for a rental car, because I did not buy an "extended warranty protection plan." My response was, "Why would I need an extended warranty for a brand new truck with 2800 miles on it? An extended warranty plan is after the factory bumper to bumper warranty is over." They told me, "Ford doesnt give rental cars unless you have an extended rental agreement. Because of the amount of cars that come in every day to all the dealerships with warranty issues." Bottom liner is I bought a 45K truck and neither the Ford Dealership, or Ford Motor company would give me a rental car while my truck was in for a manufacturers defect. So I will never buy another FORD product again. Just a side not you all should know FORD quit using cotter pins in like 2012. Must be part of their weight savings, for fuel economy push.

    Look, I love the truck and Ford I hope you log in and look at these reviews so that through constructive criticism comes updates and improvements. I love everything about the truck except the new key design and it is awkward to say the least. While in your pocket it will set the panic alarm off very often. I mean you lean one way or the other or up against something and the alarm goes off. Also, you cannot throw the key under the mat of the car if you want to lock it in and use the key pad on the drivers door to renter, or at least I dont know how to do that. My 2013 was a breeze, car alarm never set off, lock the key inside the truck and come back and enter code and you were good to go, new one (2015) much harder and cumbersome. Ford, you did more right than wrong and I love the truck! Just look over the new non-key design and improve, its a bit awkward now.

    After owning four F150s (2000, 2005, 2010, 2012), I tinkered with the idea of getting a GMC Sierra. I do like the way the GMCs look. I went to a local dealership and they let me drive a 2016 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3L around for the weekend. The first thing I noticed was a very sluggish feel to exceleration compared to my 2012 F150 5.0. Also, the interior had a cheap feel to it. I eventually passed on the Seirra and ended up back in an F150. It has the 3.5L ecoboost engine. Man, this thing is fast. Overall, I love the truck. Fords just seem to be getting better and better. Glad I stayed with the F150.
