This Year's Model Updates:

Besides the introduction of the four-door SuperCrew, America's most popular truck receives only minor changes in 2001. Power adjustable accelerator and brake pedals are now standard on all F-150 Lariat models and optional on XL and XLT trucks. The Work Series model is no longer available, but there is a newly created Work Truck option group that deletes certain equipment from the XL model. Child safety-seat anchors and four-wheel ABS are now standard equipment on all trucks. XL and XLT trucks have upgraded standard-equipment radios.

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and optional features, capable powertrain and suspension, attractive styling.
Cons:
  • Everybody and his brother have one.

  • SuperCrew Lariat - 2001 Ford F-150

Bought this truck used and loaded with every option except power sliding rear window. Quality seems pretty good with the exception of the COP system. I have replaced every coil on the truck and it keeps burning them out. $400 repair at the dealer minimum and this was for 1 coil. Truck has 8. All in all I have been fairly happy with the truck but I wish I would have waited until I found a Dodge Ram Quad Cab with similar options.

I must admit, this truck has been nothing short of bulletproof. Ive got 96,000 on it, and its been to the dealer once for a broken mounting stud on the rear cab glass. I attribute this to my maintenance and the fact I got a good one this time. You must change the tranny fluid on these trucks, its a must. Ive also found the Triton V8s like full synthetic oil. I also recommend getting one with the factory tow package, you get an auxiliary trans and oil cooler. All in all, a great truck with a good ride. Ive also made some aftermarket improvements- 4" lift kit, shift kit, and new intake.

  • Electrical problems - 2001 Ford F-150

Although I drive this truck a lot, 1,000 miles per week, it has always been serviced by the selling dealer according to schedule. Major problems. Transmission replaced before 1,000 miles. Differential wore out by 150,000 miles. Constant electrical problems and total incompetence by dealer and Ford, caused replacement of all engine sensors, vehicle computer, parts of the wiring harness and finally replacement of every wiring harness in the truck to correct problem of truck engine constantly shutting down during driving. Internal odometer lights still turn off and on at will. Electrical problems ran from 130,000 to 180,000 while they played with it.

  • Great Truck! - 2001 Ford F-150

I love my F-150! It looks good, sits high, and runs great. I get 18-20 MPG on the HWY with the 6, but with gas rising I cant afford it anymore. Everything about this truck is great!

I use my F150 for work to haul my boat as I am a fishing guide. It is a well built truck that very adequately tows. The only complaint that I have in towing is that the engine can use more low end torque. This is due in part to the fact that it is a SOHC engine versus a pushrod design which is known to have much stronger low end torque. The ride and handling is first rate. The quality of components and their assembly is far superior to the domestic competition and the ruggedness, durability, and beefy frame and suspension makes you realize that the Japanese trucks really fall short in these key areas in comparison. Ford trucks continue to be the best built trucks on the road today.

GREAT VEHICLE - 3RD SPRCAB AND THE 6TH FORD VEHICLE WE HAVE OWNED!

  • Lacking - 2001 Ford F-150

If all you are interested in is high performance, I guess this is fine. Special oil, air filter only sold by ford and has to be ordered. Paint quality is terrible, and what is that 1 inch gap on either side of the dash about? Also the brakes are lousy.

Excellent ride and power, poor turning radius, fair to midland gas milage for a truck with a 5.4 I guess it is OK. Comfortable interior

  • Good truck - 2001 Ford F-150

I also own a Crown Victoria and my wife would rather ride in the truck. Only had two mechanical failures in 5 years, right brake caliper and A/C. Truck rides good on the road and style is very aerodynamic.

Great overall truck, reliable and handles a workload well. I like the way this stepside truck looked and I was impressed with the way it handled.
