Model Overview:

The Ford F-150 is the star of the long-running F-Series line, which stretches back to the post-World War II era, and millions of F-150s have been sold in that time. Originally conceived as a rugged, no-frills workhorse, the Ford F-150 has since morphed into a well-appointed, versatile rig with numerous trim levels that serve a wide range of shoppers, including weekend warriors who need room for the family and the occasional trip to the hardware store.

The full-size pickup segment is so competitive these days that it's hard to pick a clear favorite. But new or used, the F-150 is a great choice, with recent models offering cutting-edge features like turbocharged engines and the MyFord Touch electronics interface. Thanks to the Ford F-150's countless configurations and incredible popularity, you're almost guaranteed to find one that meets your needs.

  • Vibrations! - 2004 Ford F-150
    By -

There are some nice features on this truck that caused me to buy it over a GM. Styling is nice, the assisted tailgate is a great idea and the extra space behind the seats on the regular cab was a big selling point. The problem is that the truck has a vibration between 40-55mph that they just cant seem to fix. After lots of time in the shop and thousands of dollars in warranty labor and parts its still not fixed. Based on comments on the forum this is a fairly common problem on these trucks. If you buy one, test drive it carefully to make sure you dont have the vibration. Its easily felt in the steering wheel and seat. If it has it walk away and try another one.

I agree about the sluggish engine. It doesnt seem to want to get up and go when accelerating from 50 mph and above. The gauges for the FX4 have red needles. Hard to see in daylight with sunglasses on. Lose the suicide doors on extended cabs. Hard to load cargo in parking spaces next to other cars.

  • Too much cab room in this XLT plus model - 2014 Ford F-150

Ford could shorten the wheel base on this 6.5 ft bed by 12 inches if the interior length was 6 inches shorter and the bed was only 6 foot. I am 6 ft tall and cannot reach the pedals with the seat back as far as it can go! I love this truck except for the lack of interior storage (incredibly small glove box) and because of lousy gas mileage. My Tacoma had better interior storage. The hands free is very easy to use; there is no need for a premium stereo. I go off road through major bumps and ruts on BLM roads to go dirt-biking. I pulled 7,000 pound auto hauler with an Outback on it and got 16.5 MPG over 1400 miles and barely noticed a trailer being pulled. My model has a 3.5 L turbo, which I could not find on the review selections with a 6.5 ft bed. Also, I wish for made a narrower model for off-road, as I do that regularly here in the mountains. Fuel economy on the 3.5 L turbo is really bad unless the truck is on the interstate. Although most of my driving is off road, I average only 12 MPG with 10% small town driving, 50 % country roads and 40% 55 to 65 mph roads. The accelerator is extremely touchy; Rear tires regularly screech even with the traction control. Because of bad fuel economy, I am l looking for a mid-size truck.

  • Simply The Best - 2003 Ford F-150

Has a roomy comfortable cabin. The controls are simple. The 6-CD Changer is really nice. The FX4 package has exactly the accessories I would have added on. Performance is a dream! Recently went over the continental divide between 10,000 and 11,000 feet. What power! Hardly felt it downshift on the 7% grade. I averaged 17.6mpg on that trip with the 5.4liter v8. The transmission is smooth and the engine is responsive. The supercab has enough room for my family of four while having, in my opinion, the best styling in its class. Its the little things like the power split rear window, that make this the best truck on the market.

  • Excellent 1/2 Ton - 2005 Ford F-150

Have only had this truck a week but already impressed. Its everything I thought it would be and then some. Drove an S-10 for a number of years and really appreciate the additional cab space. Considered a new Ranger but surprisingly was able to by a similarly equipped F-150 cheaper.

I use my F150 4WD SuperCab Lariat for everything, we even take it on long trips. Its comfortable, drives great, its quiet and it hauls what I need to haul.

  • Needs help in three areas. - 2005 Ford F-150

HVAC controls. Limited choices. Slow to heat or cool. Bad fogging problem outside front windshield at engine vent. Visteon compressors are lame. Premium sound system: NOT! Poor controls/performance. Horrible speaker layout and too few of them. Low quality plastics everywhere and very little in the way of convenience areas compared to GMC or Dodge XLT. 4.6L V-8 Heritage engine dates from a decade ago. Low HP, torque & MPGs. Not particularly smooth, especially when A/C is running. Still, I paid $10K less than a Titan or Tacoma - so I can live with the gripes.

  • New 10-Speed (Schwinn :) Transmission - 2017 Ford F-150
    By -

After the first 600 miles of ownership I am very impressed with my new F-150 XLT Supercrew 4x4. It has the new 3.5L Ecoboost engine and 10 speed automatic transmission (the tool only lets me enter the review under 6 speed) with 3.55 gears. After 7 years of trouble-free ownership, I traded in my 2009 F-150 4x4 with the 6-speed trans, 4.6L 3V (V8) engine, and 3.55 gears for this truck. The powertrain is what makes the 2017 truly shine. Power feels endless and the truck is deceptively fast. The 10 speed shifts far smoother than my old 6 speed. It always seems to be in the perfect gear, and shifts are quick. I have not experienced any gear hunting or hesitation while shifting. I have not yet towed with it, but did drive 100 miles with 600 lbs. in the bed (didnt even notice the load). Acceleration feels effortless, and the engine is so quiet it is easy to find myself speeding. The Sync 3 system is a huge upgrade over MyFord Touch, and it is really intuitive. Overall the truck is beautiful and has averaged 19mpg in mostly city driving (and plenty of idling during the cold winter starts). The cab is huge, backseat is comfortable for adults, and plenty of storage. I cant wait to take the first road trip! I do have two critiques. The front seats are a little firmer and less comfortable than the seats in my 2009. They are power with lumbar and are certainly comfortable, but the seats in the 2009 seemed to hit all the right spots and fit like a glove. The other critique is the ride can be a little jittery on rough roads when unloaded. It is still an acceptable ride quality, but I wish Ford would offer a soft ride option for those who dont need to tow 12,000 pounds (I will never tow more than 7,000). I am confident this truck will hold up just as well as my last F-150 with years of trouble free performance. Great job Ford!
