This Year's Model Updates:

The 1998 F-150 gets a 50th Anniversary decal affixed to the lower left corner of the windshield. Other changes include making the locking tailgate standard on XLT and Lariat trims, optional on XL and Standard models. Foglights become optional this year on all four-wheel-drive models except for the Lariat, which gets them standard. An STX package featuring 17-inch tires, aluminum wheels and color-keyed grille debuts as an option for the XLT 2WD. The Lariat receives a color-keyed steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and outside power signal mirrors. Silver Metallic paint replaces Silver Frost paint, and Light Denim Blue replaces Portofino Blue.

Pros:
  • Best-in-class interior styling, powerful engine choices, and great on-road handling make this one of our favorite full-size trucks. Does pretty well off-road, too.
Cons:
  • Exterior styling has too many swoops and dips for our liking. Hard-to-see fenders make parking this thing a chore.

I like the truck very much. Very nice looking truck inside and out. Drives great, comfortable and performs very well. Could get better gas mileage, but its worth it.

  • Tougher than any other trucks - 1998 Ford F-150

I bought this truck with 10,000 miles on it and it all started there. I tow 10,500 lb. trailers, hunt, fish, go to the beach with my truck and use my 4wd quite a bit. And it always gets me home. With a grand total of 152,045 miles on the odometer I feel its just getting warmed up. All ive ever had to do was replace a window lock switch back in 99. I drive her a bit hard, use that 5.4 Triton like its supposed to be used. My transmission is rock solid and so is the motor. I change my oil every 3,000 miles and transmission fluid every 30,000. Ford trucks are tough. Ive had some Dodges do the same but Fords are great.

This isnt my first Ford truck, and Ive been very happy with them. I am a country boy and Im probably harder on my trucks than most people. This truck drives circles around my brothers Silverado out in the muddy fields, and I have had less repairs than he has. The only major repair has been a new clutch, which was my fault. I down graded from the 5.4 to the 4.6 this truck, and wish I had my 5.4 back. This is still a tough truck that is built solid.

Ive always owned pickups and bought this F-150 (my first Ford) in 02. The best truck Ive ever owned. Used for commuting and it was a pleasure to drive, even for a 5-speed. Had 90,000 miles and the original clutch. Im sold and will always drive an F-150.

  • Top Quality - 1998 Ford F-150

I have 175,000 miles on this truck and never had anything go wrong this is a top quality truck. I abuse the heck out of this truck driving daily from 4000 ft to 8000 ft in the mountains. The 4WD system gets abused 9 winter months of the year. An excellent truck.

  • Stone Cold Solid Truck - 1998 Ford F-150

This a very solid, reliable vehicle. Always starts and runs strong, will never leave you stranded. Excellent 4WD capabilities. Very comfortable and a pleasure to drive for a truck. Supercab has more room than most cars.

This pickup has always been reliable, even in severely cold weather. I have had no problems with it. It still has no rattles, squeaks or wind noise. It runs smoothly and the automatic shifts well. The only improvement that could be made is to reduce the cabin noise level. This pickup is much quieter than my previous F150 but could be better.

  • Good Truck - 1998 Ford F-150

I had 1999 Chevrolet Z71. This truck is better all around. Rides better, more power, sits higher, etc. The only area it gives up ground to the Chevrolet is in off-road performance. That is mainly due to the rear locker that was standard equipment on the Chevy.

Great value for the money. Drive 200+ miles a day city/hwy with smooth carlike ride.
