Overview & Reviews
The 1998 F-150 gets a 50th Anniversary decal affixed to the lower left corner of the windshield. Other changes include making the locking tailgate standard on XLT and Lariat trims, optional on XL and Standard models. Foglights become optional this year on all four-wheel-drive models except for the Lariat, which gets them standard. An STX package featuring 17-inch tires, aluminum wheels and color-keyed grille debuts as an option for the XLT 2WD. The Lariat receives a color-keyed steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and outside power signal mirrors. Silver Metallic paint replaces Silver Frost paint, and Light Denim Blue replaces Portofino Blue.
- Best-in-class interior styling, powerful engine choices, and great on-road handling make this one of our favorite full-size trucks. Does pretty well off-road, too.
- Exterior styling has too many swoops and dips for our liking. Hard-to-see fenders make parking this thing a chore.

Best Vehicle Ive Owned - 1998 Ford F-150
By Sam - June 16 - 10:04 pmI bought this truck used it was four years old then, and now Ive had it four years. Ive done nothing but routine inspections and change the oil and filters regularly. It has never been to the shop for anything. Even the battery lasted eight years. Only 75k miles on it, but this truck has been nothing but a joy to own. I will never ever consider buying a Chevy again.

My Red F150 - 1998 Ford F-150
By Hannable - March 12 - 9:08 pmBought just after 9/11. It has been a good truck. I used it as a commuter, until I got a job with a company vehicle. Now it is my around the weekend truck. Like the folding rear seat, like the 60/40 bench seat in the front.

Great Truck! - 1998 Ford F-150
By Hende - January 20 - 11:26 amI have only had this truck a few weeks but I have always wanted an F150. This is one tight truck. 10 times better than the Dodge Ram, my last truck. 92,000 miles and just as tight as my fiancees 05 Pontiac. Third door is great! Fuel economy is a little poor but its a truck, get over it! 4.6L is still a very strong motor. I have no use for the 5.4L.

Great F-150 - 1998 Ford F-150
By sean - December 21 - 10:59 pmI love my truck because of the utility reliability and the looks. I have spent $420 in repairs in 6.5 years and 142k of use. A truck gives me the independence I like. I can move things without having to get any help. I am a pretty big guy and like the space. My family of 5 can fit in for short trips.

98 F 150 - 1998 Ford F-150
By rpr - November 29 - 4:44 pmFactory Quality Rebuilt engine required after one year. Left windshield wiper refuses to clean window properly. Premature tie-rod repair. Lifter noise unless premium gas used.

Trusty Steed - 1998 Ford F-150
By goofball76 - April 30 - 2:00 amI love this truck, and it loves me. I have driven 43,000 miles in this truck, (owned 2.5 years)and it has 111,000 at the moment, and all I have had to do was replace the front disc brake pads. This truck is relentless in making sure I am never stranded anywhere. I abuse the heck outta the poor thing, yet it takes it like a real truck should. The only problem I found is the paint is cracked, (sniff!) which seems to be a common problem with these trucks. But I still wax the heck outta it anyway.

A Durn Good Truck - 1998 Ford F-150
By Kenstar - February 17 - 2:00 amI used this truck for towing my motorcycle trailer and for general all- around driving. It has been highly reliable and functional. I bought the smaller V-8 thinking it would get better mileage than the larger engine. It didnt and that was disappointing. A great around truck, but not good for large range commuting because of the mileage (about 13.5 MPG).

My F-150 named Judy - 1998 Ford F-150
By fordguy81 - February 16 - 2:00 amIve owned this truck since it was a year and a half old, it had 30,500 miles on it when i bought it and have had only 2 occasions to ever have it in the shop for mechanical reasons other than routine maint. Im exceptionally pleased with this truck and would only hope that my next is as reliable and as good a truck.

exellent - 1998 Ford F-150
By Marcos Meza - February 16 - 2:00 amThe pickup is good on the highway we usually make road trips every year of about 4000 miles going and coming. Performance is decent but thats because it has 170,000 miles on the odometer. The pickup has only had minor problems, the biggest problem it has faced was the starter and the flywheel going bad but thats about it it Has been a very realiable and bad ass truck too drive.
