Model Overview:

The Ford F-150 is the star of the long-running F-Series line, which stretches back to the post-World War II era, and millions of F-150s have been sold in that time. Originally conceived as a rugged, no-frills workhorse, the Ford F-150 has since morphed into a well-appointed, versatile rig with numerous trim levels that serve a wide range of shoppers, including weekend warriors who need room for the family and the occasional trip to the hardware store.

The full-size pickup segment is so competitive these days that it's hard to pick a clear favorite. But new or used, the F-150 is a great choice, with recent models offering cutting-edge features like turbocharged engines and the MyFord Touch electronics interface. Thanks to the Ford F-150's countless configurations and incredible popularity, you're almost guaranteed to find one that meets your needs.

  • Transmmission Issues - 1999 Ford F-150

Ive had the truck for about 4 years. I bought the truck from my dad he bought it brand new in 99 and has always kept up with the maintenence. The truck never felt like it was shifting right. The first trans. went out at about 77k miles it has 177k know and the second trans. has gone out it was also a ford trans. installed @ a ford dealer. The truck was mainly driven by my wife and she has a light foot and is very easy on cars. The engine sounds great and other than minor things such as sensors and plugs its done a great job staying together. This will be the third transmission on this truck but now I went with a transmission expert hopefully this is the last transmission for this truck.

One the highest quality vehicle I have ever owned. Only major issues after 65,000 miles were a bad solenoid for the locking hubs and a temp gauge that is 6 degrees off. OE tires were borderline, and interior cloth stains quite easily. Interior quality was much better before they sourced this stuff out (yes, I worked at Ford years ago and still hold the competency of the truck group high). This thing has been down a lot of washboard dirt roads and on rough narrow two tracks and is still tight. K&E filter helped gas mileage a bit. Go with the 6.5 bed if you haul any lumber or want to use the bed for overnighters.

Owned the truck five months! Headlight unit had to be replaced, plastic adjuster striped, replaced wiper blades- left streaks, back side of side view mirror came off in car wash, electrical problems: no radio but cd player worked-dash lights were in day time mode at night-alarm went off by itself- power windows go up half way then go back down on their own- . What a disappointment. Truck LOOKS very sharp but the longer I own it the more disappointed I am. Anybody wanna buy it?! Owned many Rams before- no problems. This is a brand new 2016 f150, regular cab, short bed, and I have many compliments on it. For sale. 5500 miles. Go to get trade in value and its pathetic- five grand loss in five months of me owning it.

Happy with truck. Got 17.2 MPG with second tank of gas. Only dislike is the handling--will fit that with a 3/5" drop kit and sway bars

This is my second F-150, first one was an 04 FX4. Both have been great trucks. Its very responsive, does well off road and in sand..the shift on the fly comes in handy. Gas mileage has been around 13.4 city and 18.8 highway. No matter what trim level you get, youll be happy. Definitley go for the 5.4 triton, the 4.6 was sluggish off the line. Overall two thumbs up

This is a great truck. This is my fourth purchase of an F150. Ive owned all body types. Ford continues to make a great truck. If only they would/could do something about fuel efficiency. Since my first Ford in 1989, fuel efficiency SUCKS. Now that regular gasoline is hovering around two dollars a gallon, I,m giving serious consideration to unloading this puppy. When I need the utility of a truck, Maybe Im borrow my son-in-laws Jeep SUV

Since owing this truck it has only been back for an oil change and to check the shift points on the transmission. I love the interior and with the three valve 300 hp 5.4 engine, the truck really runs great at high highway speeds. It just cruises with no roll or road walking. In the snow of the northeast it does a great job. I am really pleased and happy with my truck. The only negative about the whole truck is gas mileage.

This is my third F150, and I love this truck. Last winter,(when the truck was brand new), was one of the roughest I can remember. This truck lives at 8000 ft. in the "foothills" of Colorado, and it has never let me down, I have 12K on it now without a single problem of any type. I can hold 70 mph going over the highest pass in this country while barely touching the pedal. Since it can do that at over 10,000ft. elevation, it has all the power I need. I run E85 exclusively. So far its doing just as well as my other one which has 185K on it. Id tell you about the reliability of that one but youd think I was lying.

  • nice light duty truck or heavy duty car? - 2001 Ford F-150

Smooth riding, comfortable. Reasonably quiet. Has developed one rattle in 56,000 miles, in door panel (I think). Had to replace ball joints at 40,000 miles. Accomodates the family very well. Plenty of space in the back seat for the kids. Limited bed space, though, for actual truck use. Overall a good compromise between a truck for work and a car for the family.
