This Year's Model Updates:

The Sport Trac is an offshoot of the SUV. Basically, Ford has grafted a small cargo bed to the back of a heavily revised Ford Explorer.

Pros:
  • Unique combination of cargo bed and regular SUV, strong V6, optional cargo items improve versatility.

  • An more functional SUV - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

No major problems yet, only minor sensor related failures; ride improved considerably with a couple of aftermarket improvements; fuel economy can be improved with a better air intake and exhaust system

  • No Faith in Ford Quality - Sport Trac - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I loved the Sport Trac when I first purchased in April, 02. But one transmission, 2 other tows from my driveway, busted electronics, broken power window motor, snapped door handle, as well as many rattles and jingles, well, the thrill is gone. I purchased this new vehicle for dependibility, but it is the least dependable vehicle I have, and its the NEWEST vehicle I have! In process of shopping around for a replacement. Some areas are just thrown together, with foam here and plastic there, some which doesnt fit. That and the mechanical problems lost all faith in Ford for me and the fam.

  • Luv my Sport Trac! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I really do love this truck. It has the comfort of a big Explorer interior plus has the pickup bed to haul around my tools, etc. I am able to transport amazing piles of stuff, including sheets of plywood/sheetrock, dump runs, etc. plus I can put all of my computer gear in the back seat for secure storage/transportation. The gas mileage is OK, the ride is somewhat bouncy but overall this is a great utility vehicle for transporting the family comfortably or hauling stuff around.

  • GREAT CONCEPT - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

LOVE THE CONCEPT OF SUV WITH FOUR DOORS, FULL BACK SEAT AND PICKUP BED. HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. GET A LOT OF LOOKS FROM OTHER DRIVERS.

  • No trust in this one - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Love the design, but wish Ford would have put more thought into the vehicle. Replaced three thermostats, two waterpumps, sensors, breaks and rotars all under 45000 miles. No faith in this vehicle any longer when traveling long distances. New breaks, but it squeals like crazy when attempting to stop.

  • Great truck - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

The truck is a compromise for some but not for me. Perfect for a family of three, more usable than aregular pickup truck- still does all the hauling I need to do. I average 18 MPG. The only compromise is who gets to drive when we all go out together.

  • Worth the Wait - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Traded in my F-150 extended cab for a used Sport Trac, and dont regret it at all. While physically smaller, the useable space in the cab is much greater. Bed space is less, but sufficient to move plenty of stuff. With lockable tonneau, it is effectively a huge trunk. Only had it for a month, so have not noticed any issues with accelerate brake wear (yet). Mileage varies from 16 / 21, just like Ford said it would. Only fault I have with it is that you can not get cruise/tilt steering with the five speed stick. Not sure why, but it is annoying.

  • WAS GREAT UNTIL 50,000 MILES - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
    By -

THE ONLY PROBLEM BEFORE 50,000 WAS THE INTERIOR JUST PEELS AWAY BY THE RADIO AND CUP HOLDER. THEN CAME THE $800 BALL JOINTS AND $250 VACUUM HOSES AND THE $800 A/C COMPRESSOR NOT TO MENTION HAD TO HAVE TIRES AND BRAKES EARLY. 2WD SUCKS IN THE SNOW. HAD TO WEIGH THE BACK END WITH SALT BAGS WHICH WAS GREAT ON THE ALRIGHTY BAD GAS MILEAGE.

  • Sweet! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
    By -

Bought mine as a dealer demo vehicle. I have had no major prblems with this vehicle. It did have a rough idle, but took it to the dealer and the reprogramed to PCM and fixed it. Runs smooth like a top now! Also I love all the help I can get from websites like mysporttrac dot com. IF you are looking for aftermarket parts or just help fixing a rattle on it, chances are someone on there has already been through what you are going through and will gladly steer you in the right direction. LOVE IT!!!!

  • Perfect for me - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

No problems. One recall on the cruise control. Still havent taken it in for replacement...hate the dealers. This truck has been the perfect solution for me. I cant say enough good things about it. I love it!
