Give me back my Jeep! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By jcpo - September 4 - 10:00 amI think I bought this truck only because I liked the looks, something different. It is so hard to handle, parking, backing up, and turning are hard. Backing up at night is nearly impossible. The gas milage is AWFUL! The re-sale value is awful as well. Ive already tried to trade it in and sell it out right and have not been pleased so far. I had a Ford Bronco II years ago and I loved it, then went to Jeep, loved it too. Now Im looking for a Jeep Wrangler. I cant wait to get rid of this Ford. What was I thinking?!?

Occasionally the 3rd time ISNT a charm! - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By WJM - June 26 - 10:00 am3rd Explorer-nothing like the first one (1991)no concerns for 60000+ miles until 3/4 ton Chevy turned into me at 60mph. It took a beating but saved me! This vehicle is not what I thought it would be. Trouble on wet roads w/traction-wind noise around front windows that you cant hear a conversation w/pass. unless you both shout(occurs at 35 or higher mph). Gas milage is terrible town 11mpg & highway about 14+mpg. All kings of engine noises under the hood. Many more concerns also. Car seems very poorly assembled. My 91 was the best followed by 96 Eddie B. and this one is a distant 3rd, very distant!!

POS - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By jdwk - November 24 - 2:00 amThe car is very useful, and is one of the few cars I dont mind riding in the back of. However, it has been terribly unreliable. It is in the shop every other month. While it has been relatively swift in the past, it currently is painfully slow and is getting less than 10 mpg! I just got it out of the shop again, and although the strange noise during acceleration is gone, it is still slow and I havent noticed an improvement in gas milage.

stranded @33,000 miles - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By curt jones - November 24 - 10:00 amNo problems for 3 years, I was a booster of the vehicle. It failed me coming home from a short trip. stranded for 3 days ( holiday weekend).I was one week over the three year warranty, the "on call" service would not help. It seems my thermostat self destructed, sending pieces to lodge in the water pump, the pump seized and froze causing the drive belt to overheat and break. I have also had many close calls when I change lanes due to the huge blind spot of its design. have taken a second job on weekends to pay for gas, will sell it soon.

High Priced Junk - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Mike_A - September 22 - 10:00 amI have had it less than a year and its been in the shop 3 times. First the dealer sold me the bad Firestone tires which needed a recall. Next was the power stearing pump when out and the third was my oil pressure guage went haywire and come to find out almost all of the oil sensors had to be replaced. I have the 4x4 loaded model and baby it, dealer oil changes, garaged parked at work and home, never in snow/mud/rain completely taken care of. And the wind noise is unbearable at times, everyone that rides in it makes the same commit "what is that noise". The first chance to unload it for the loan amount its sold....any buyers???

Worst gas hog I have ever owned - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Reed Thwaites - May 20 - 3:53 amThis truck was a wedding gift from my father so I probably shouldnt complain about it, but people want to hear it so hear it goes. It is a very heavy truck it takes a lot of effort to drive, the steering is tough the shocks are tough and the breaks are touchy. The fuel economy is not 16-17 its more like 10-12. I cant wait to pay off my other car so I can trade this hunk of junk in.

No Faith in Ford Quality - Sport Trac - 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Tomen8r - December 11 - 2:00 amI loved the Sport Trac when I first purchased in April, 02. But one transmission, 2 other tows from my driveway, busted electronics, broken power window motor, snapped door handle, as well as many rattles and jingles, well, the thrill is gone. I purchased this new vehicle for dependibility, but it is the least dependable vehicle I have, and its the NEWEST vehicle I have! In process of shopping around for a replacement. Some areas are just thrown together, with foam here and plastic there, some which doesnt fit. That and the mechanical problems lost all faith in Ford for me and the fam.
