Warning... - 1994 Ford Escort
By Mr Smooth1 - August 28 - 2:00 amI bought this 94 Escort wagon (70K) in 98 for my High school daughter. At 90K we lost the AC and paid about $1200 to replace. Since 95K, Ive had it in the shop continually with engine troubles. At 103K mi, an $85 diagnostic revealed a dead cylinder due to a burnt valve...needs a $1000 valve job. I sold it to a mechanic for $500. I suspect that my daughter burned up the engine (driving too fast, accelerating too fast, passing, gunning the engine) although I kept the oil changed every 3000 mi. Im replacing the Wagon with a 98 Escort LX sedan (47K mi), but this time Im getting a 5 speed. I expect the AC will fail around 80K.

Great First Car - 1994 Ford Escort
By SimbaTLion - August 4 - 2:00 amThe Escort runs great at 109,000 miles on it. It is a bit sluggish accelerating, and it takes about 4 seconds to get to 40 mph on the highway. The car needs bigger cup holders, because they only fit soda cans. The Hazard flasher button is stupidly placed behind the steering column, but otherwise the controls are fine. I get about 370 miles on one tank of gas, and this is stop and go traffic to work. Overall it is a great car for a new driver, and very economical.

Wonderful 2nd car! - 1994 Ford Escort
By 506nc - July 29 - 2:00 amI bought my 94 a year ago to drive back and forth to work. And save miles off of my truck. This car pays for itself in fuel savings. I drive 22 miles each way to work, and 80% of that is interstate, I am getting an average of 37 mpg, and have gotten as much as 40! But when the A/C is on, the power goes. But that is expected of a 4 banger.

The less miles the better! - 1994 Ford Escort
By Amanda H - June 14 - 2:00 amI had my Escort for around 3 months before the timing belt broke at 140,000- leaving me with a worthless car. Granted this was my fault, but even before the car had its problems. The check coolant light was always on- but it had plenty of coolant and never ran hot. Also had the steering wheel light always flashing, mechanic thought that it probably had to do with the sensors. The rear defroster button also stopped staying in the on position. It worked, but you had to hold the button down yourself. However, having said all that- I believe an Escort with about half the mileage of mine would be a fine starter car for someone.

I LOVE MY ESCORT!!! - 1994 Ford Escort
By Hard on cars - April 12 - 2:00 amI drove my Escort for 6 years before it was wrecked. Ive been in two accidents in Escorts and the safety devices did their jobs nicely. Two major repairs were clutch and timing belt at 80K. GREAT CAR FOR THE PRICE!!!
