Overview & Reviews
The Ford Escort is totally redesigned this year with improvements across the board. The most noticeable improvements are in the powertrain and ride quality. New sheet metal gives the Escort a rounder, more aerodynamic appearance as well. The GT hatchback version is dropped.
- Attractive new design. Good cargo space. Zippy new engine makes driving this car fun.
- Not much rear seat room.

I love my Ford Excort!! - 1997 Ford Escort
By Dottie J. - January 17 - 2:00 amThis is a dependable little car - easy to handle and gets good gas mileage. I have owned three of these cares in a row now, and I have found all of them to be very dependable. Routine maintenance charges are the only costs I have ever encountered in any of them.

Just keeps on going-and going-and going! - 1997 Ford Escort
By slate stevens - November 13 - 2:00 amBought it new in 1997 for $9999.00 on a weekend sale ad. I thought it was going to be a strippo, but to my suprise it was a "sport model", which included head rests on rear seats, sportier front seats, alloy wheels, spoiler, body colored accents, am-fm casette with 4 speakers, intermitant wipers, chrome tip exhaust, etc. 105,000 miles later, extremely reliable car, just plain wont break! Oil changed every 5,000 miles, replaced front brakes, rear still good! Just make sure you replace that timing belt every 60,000 miles, or it could break and it will damage valves and maybe pistons when it goes.

Excellent value for the money - 1997 Ford Escort
By bgharrison - June 3 - 2:00 amI havent had my Escort very long bought it used with 57k miles on it. Excellent fuel economy, somewhat comfortable as far as leg room in the front (Im about 6 with long legs this is important!). Only with I had cruise control on this one for freeway drives, and pwr locks.

Economy is cheap for a reason - 1997 Ford Escort
By Loaf - January 7 - 2:00 amThe car has some minor problems. The car was just towed away today because it will not start (even after several jump attempts). I had driven the car at 5:30, got back in the car at 6:30, and the engine wouldnt even turn. Thanks ford, you suck again. This is the second escort i have had.

Unexpected - 1997 Ford Escort
By KC0178 - December 20 - 2:00 amI bought this car with about 33,000 miles on it, for my 18 year old son to use in central Florida. We put a CD player in it. Apart from oil changes every 5-7,000 miles, a battery, tires, a change of belts @ 57,000, and a $700 rear end repair when a strut gave out, this car has been through 105,000 miles. The A/C still blows cold. The brakes need replacing. Id say we got our moneys worth out of this car. Too bad they dont make them any more.

keeps on going - 1997 Ford Escort
By Phil Ford - October 11 - 2:00 amI drive 100 miles a day round\trip to work. Ive changed the oil every 3,000 miles, bought two sets of tires, changed all the belts and hoses at 100,000 miles, and replaced the brakes at the same time. The car has never laid down on me. I have not had to replace so much as a burned out bulb. Its not the hottest car, but it sure has gotten me back and forth quite well for the past four years.

It keeps running and running and running - 1997 Ford Escort
By Thatch - September 18 - 2:00 amI am amazed at the engine. I have 112000 miles and change oil every 3000 miles. It has never needed a quart and is still relatively clean when I change it. Good gas mileage 30 to 33 on the road.

Takes a Lickin - 1997 Ford Escort
By CA_Kid - August 19 - 2:00 amBought new, now have over 100K on it and it still runs great. Body and paint job are outstanding and the engine is extremely durable. Like most 4 cyl. cars, some power is lost when turning on the A/C, but it sure comes out cool! Windshield seems to have a design flaw, the padding keeps coming out. Otherwise I couldnt be happier with this little commuter car.
