  • 1993 Escort GT, sad to see it go - 1993 Ford Escort

Bought our 93 GT 5 speed with 36,000 miles in 1996, and had to let it go in 2008 due to rust. Was a great car, peppy 1.8 engine gave us no problems except for slight lifter noise and general maintenance. Dist. O-Ring, thermostat and sending unit ,radiator, hoses, small things. Tranny went through 2 clutches, and a 3-4 shift fork and synchronizer. Fun to drive seems to want to go through front ball joints and outer tie rods though. Ours was blue with gray interior, started rusting around the rear wheel lips, and went like wildfire since. The back half of the car is so rusted in the lower rear panels, and the frame rails are severely rusted. Rear strut came thru, and found more rust on the towers.

This has got to be the best car I have ever owned. Phenomenal reliability and durability, especially for an American made car in the early 90s. Other than brakes and exhaust, this baby has everything else original, and I cant ever remember a time it has refused to start, drive, or generally perform like I wanted it to. Too bad they dont make the Escort any more, as the Focus appears constantly plagued by a slew of problems, both cosmetic and mechanical. If you can find a used Escort anywhere between 92-99, grab it & hold on to it you wont regret it.

I bought my car 5 years ago with 77k. Repair work has been very reasonable. It wasnt until the car hit around 150k that the engine needed some work. And within the last year I just had to replace the brake pads and the altenator. But when your car has 170+k you cant complain. This car is the best car anyone in my family has had.

I have had this car since it was one year old. It has been a great car and it would have been even better had I not taken it to som horrible mechanics. It is getting old now but it is so economical that I just refuse to let go. The dogs love it too. It is perfect for them.

I love my escort & it has been very reliable. Have taken many road trips with it & never had any problems.Other than normal maint. I have only replaced the clutch, the dr side cv joint and heater core. I have never been stranded in all my travels. In 02 it finally gave out w/163000 miles. Had motor replaced runs great now and odometer reads 200589 (actual is 63000 on new motor). Interior good cond and exterior no rust just some scratches and bumper damage from some idiot backing into me and not said a word. I have used and abused this car for multiple purposes. Think of buying another car but not sure I want to part w/my baby.

A great little car. It would be even better if I had not taken it to horrible places such as All Tune and Lube in Fairfax. They fixed one thing and destroyed another...Having a great mechanic is important, and I think with the help of one, the Ford Escort 93 can keep going and going and going.

I have been very pleased with this car. I am an active outdoor enthusiast and have taken this car places where others with two wheel drive wouldnt go. The front wheel drive is excellent. I have had virtually noproblems with this car until recently when it started missing. Turns out the plugs and wiring and timing belt were all still original and should have ben replaced 30,000 miles ago anyway! So now that it has been it is running great again.

car came from michigan. on way back the car averaged approx. 35 mpg. since ive had it has been back and forth to west virginia. my wife drives it every day, to and from work and personal use. it is an absolute incredable car. overall a complete two thumbs up! i dont intend to get rid of it.

  • Love My Wagon - 1993 Ford Escort

Ive had my navy blue wagon since I drove it off of the dealers lot. This car has never left me stranded. Replaced heater core (leaking coolant in 99 $400), and the ignition (03 $200). The ignition gave out when I was at PepBoys so, I wasnt really stranded... Other than these items and routine maintenance, everything else is original. The A/C still blows ice cold air during hot TX summers, never serviced. Ive since bought a new car but couldnt bare to trade it in. In fact, I drive this car more than my new minivan. ODO - 114K.

Bought Green 93 Wagon because of excellent deal at dealers auction. I move alot, so dragging my beefed up 78 Firebird w/ V8 not good idea, gas, etc. So thats where this car comes into the picture. So far Ive been pretty happy with it. Interior imaculant and exterior not to shabby. I found the interior to be better in quality than the newer cars today. I want to buy a new car, but none of the Sedans out there seem to satisfy my taste and budget. Hate to get rid of this car being so dependable. Dont much like the new Fords, so looking at Toyota Corolla in future.
