Awesome to drive! I like the zipping around feeling from the little car and the manual transmission is the only way to go! Bought the car about 2 years ago and it is not aging well...found numerous times we have had to put patch work on it. I will say Im not sure about safety, it doesnt seem like it would hold up well in a collision but i dont know.

Bought this car in 2010 with 68,000 miles,it now has 89,000. Only perpuse is to drive to and from work daily, 75 mile round trip. Gets awesome gas milage, rutinly between 32-37. it all depends on how you drive it. If you try to stay at 80mph, you will get horrable mileage. I stay at 2800rpm or about 72mph on the highway, to get the mileage list above (2500prm or 68mph to get 37mpg). this is NOT a preformance car and shouldnt be driven like one, if you are looking for the GOOD mileage, however it will and does surpass all other models in its catagory.

  • Great First Car - 2001 Ford Escort

This was the first car I bought while in college. I bought it with 95,000 miles, and I am almost at 200,000 miles. It has been very reliable, and I have only had to replace a fuel filter and alternator. The clutch and transmission seem to still be going strong. A lot of things are starting to need work, so I will probably be buying a new car. My only problem while owning this car has been the gas mileage. I only seem to get about 25 MPG.

Bought new in 01, still going strong. The timing belt must be replaced around 115,000 or it may break. Replaced the alternator around 118,000. If you do regular upkeep as directed in the owners manual, it will keep going.

  • 2001 Ford ZX2 Lacks Comfort - 2001 Ford Escort

My number one complaint with this car is comfort. The shoulder room is very tight for an adult man. The seats are cheap. I feel like my bottom is 2 inches off the ground and I have the sensation of driving a GO Cart. When I exit the vehicle my knees feel like theyre even with my ear lobes. The car has adequate pickup and reliability. I also see excessive vibration while in idle as experienced by another reviewer. Interior seems mainly cheap plastic. Lack of a center console to rest your elbox on is also annoying. This would be a adequate car for a small framed teenager but an average sized adult will not be happy with this car. I have basicly let this car sit in my driveway the last 5 years.

  • A Worthwhile Purchase - 2001 Ford Escort

Ive had this car over six years now and it is one of the better vehicle purchases Ive ever made. It has been very reliable and has not had any major mechanical issues. I replaced the air filter with a premium air filter and performed a tune up using premium spark plugs last year and the fuel economy has been consistently averaging 31 MPG. Before that, I was averaging around 28 MPG.

  • Pretty Good - 2001 Ford Escort

I bought this car in 2004 with 35,000 miles on it. I have put 65,000 miles on it over the last five years. Up until the 90,000 mile mark it was an extremely good car, with nothing other than regular maintanence. The last year it needed brakes (pads, rotors, and drums), tie-rods, and a solenoid, all between $400 and $500 each. I always get over 30 mpg, usually closer to 35. Ride and handling are acceptable for a small car. Not much interior room, but enough for my 52" body. It has had intermittant problems shifting from park to drive when first started. Likes to stay in park or neutral. Have to bump shifter into neurtal, than back into drive for it to get into gear.

Purchased new in 2001 and I could not be happier with this car. Never had any problems with this car. Just recently replaced my first set of brakes. 5 speed transmission moves this car quickly in traffic. I still own this car and will replace the timing belt to get another 75,000 miles out of it.
