So far I have 201,000 on it and it needs a new clutch. Otherwise, I have had only minor issues. Reliability is fantastic (partly thanks to the Mazda 1.8L engine).

Bought it used with 240000 km for $900 replaced inner tie rod because previos owner hit the curb. replaced exhaust pipe because I lent it to a friend and he went over a railroad track to hard. heater core leaked , so I cut a hole in the firewall and replaced it in an hour. Had trasmission filter changed without flushing just because its never been done. had to tighten up rocker box covers by puting in shorter bolts to stop oil leakage. I think the timing belt was replaced at 200000 kms Always starts on cold days -30 not plugged in. 30+ mpg or 25 city. everything else is original including spark plugs regular oil changes every 5000 km We have 2 kids in boosters Still going at 300000km.

I have owned two Escort GTs, and I LOVED both. There peppy when you want them to be and docile when you need them to be. I have NEVER had any problems with either one, and would faithfully drive anywhere no matter the distance in my GT that has OVER 200,000 miles on it. Decent interior with lots of trunk space gotta love hatchbacks, and decent leg room. ANYBODY that has ever ridden in an old eclipse will LOVE the back seats of these cars. Anybody that wants to have a fast car, the escort is the ultimate sleeper if you want to invest some money of course. check out Ford Escort Coswoths then investigate an engine called a BPT or a BPR both direct swaps for the escorts. 12 sec quarters or faster!

  • My Escort - 1995 Ford Escort

My escort was the best little two door car ive ever owned. I had a toyota corolla before and compared to the Ford Escort it was crap. It was running strong until some one beat on the hood. My battery waring light came on one day and i was drving and i was at a Wendys drive through and it died, i tried re starting it but it wouldnt turn over. I thought it was just a dead battery but it had wireing problems it said. I jump started it drove for about 1 mile and then it started to jump like you would push in the clutch then let it out while having the pedal to the metal. Ohter than that problem it has been the best vehicle ive owned and drove. Great MPG comfort and way fun to drive!!!

  • A Great Compact Car - 1995 Ford Escort

I bought the car with 62k and it now has 122k. Ive owned it for 7 years. I change the oil and filter every 4,000 miles. Other than normal maintenance items, Ive replaced the timing belt, cooling fan, gas tank filler pipe, alternator, battery and front brake pads. The gas mileage is between 35-39 mpg. By far, this is the most economical and dependable car Ive ever owned! Im 63 years old and will never part with it!

  • GT fun - big bang for the buck! - 1995 Ford Escort
    By -

I have owned a lot of cars including classics but this little one really shines. Engine really comes to life after 2800 RPM . 15" 60s tires & sport suspension make the car stick to the pavement, especially on winding roads. Bought this for $1,700 with Pwr moon roof, wdw, locks, & CC with only 60K. 1 owner car! Replace brakes & exhaust myself. Car has been real reliable and fun. Suspension is tight unlike reg Escorts so youll feel the bumps a bit. Not the most refined drive train, but like I said fun to drive, and has guts! Very decent on gas & burns regular. So, what more do you want for the price. Great on the Hwy too! If you can find a good GT, buy it. Theyre hard to find!

  • Why buy anything newer? - 1995 Ford Escort

Good car, very low cost of operation. The wagon is roomy. If youre shopping for one, get the 5spd - it will give much better performance & fuel economy that the automatic. Wagon is roomy think of it as a 35mpg SUV, without the ground clearance. Run tire pressure little high - 40psi or so, and drive gently - and youll see regular high-30mpg in town, and over 40mpg on highway. It can be done, Ive done it. Fairly easy to work on. Good ergonomics - the wheel/shifter/pedal relationship is good, much better than the 95 Caprice I owned prior to this one. Escort Wagons are a great used car value, if you find a 5spd.

This car gets great gas mileage and is pretty comfortable. The performance is OK. It takes a while to accelerate, but it turns good. Great for a first car or an extra

The Escort LX 2dr is a nice small car for a beginner or anyone. I was surprised how well it kept up with rush hour traffic. The 1.9 liter may be a small motor but it will move. The Escort is tight in steering which is good because it handles the corners well and its very fun and easy to drive. Its easy to park. An Escort may not be like a real high performance sports car but its still a nice dependable car. I currently drive my car to school and work and Im happy to say that its a good running car. Hard acceleration is zippy. It may not be as fast as some other cars but itll do. Now I see so many Escorts around now its like its a popular compact car.
