  • Lemon or not a Lemon - 2003 Ford Escape

In the beginning the vehicle was great. I did all the required servicing of the vehicle. But, after I had gotten to about 21,000 miles something went tottaly wrong. The head gasket blew, which caused me to be without my vehicle for 3 weeks. My local dealership told me they needed to replace the whole engine, since it was shot. Soon after the new engine was in place, i noticed some tapping noises at under 25mph. So, I took it back and at 25,000 miles the exhaust manifold had to be replaced. Now that I have 34,000 miles on it I am noticing more noises coming from the enginge compartment, along with sluggish shifting between gears. What is the problem now?

  • Problems, Problems - 2003 Ford Escape

I bought this vehicle brand new, right off the lot at a dealership 50 miles from home. Within two days there was a problem--the vehicle had a hole in the radiator right off the lot! With less than 10,000 miles a front wheel bearing went out. And now the thing kills sometimes if your foot is off the gas. I have to drive it with my right foot on the gas and my left on the brake when it is acting this way because every time you take your foot off the gas--even if moving in traffic--it will kill the engine. I had similar problems with a Ford in the past and now I think I wont ever own another one.

This car could be improved by Ford. I dont think they gave it their all.

  • Transmission Problem - 2003 Ford Escape
    By -

Three months after I purchased it, the transmission started to break down. The Ford dealership attempted to fix it but cannot. They claimed the computer module has to be reprogrammed so they did, but the slipping problems still keep reoccurring. I dont think this SUV is ready for prime time. Remember, you dont get compensated for the inconveniences you suffer plus headaches.

  • rough ride - 2003 Ford Escape

the ford escape is a good dependable suv.the two down falls that i have are the mileage and rough ride. i drive min. 30k miles a year and it seems im constantly filling the escape up. as far as the ride its a little rough. at times one could get motion sickness on a ride that consists of alot of turns.

  • cheap build quality--buy a jeep liberty - 2003 Ford Escape
    By -

i looked at the liberty and escape/tribute..the escape has horrible build quality on the interior, it looks so cheaply built that it wont last 3 yrs..the seats were uncomfortable, plastics bad, fit/finish were not neat, carpets and fabrics all low grade, controls cheap looking, engine loud, transmission not smooth, steering a little spongy..jeep liberty is built much better for the same price, only complaint is seats dont fold down all the way on the liberty

  • Not worth buying - 2003 Ford Escape

You can get a lot better cars than this for the price. Ive had to put at least 3k in for repairs within the first month of buying it. Although I do feel really safe in it, I have to fill up my tank every week, and I dont drive a lot. I regret buying this car and its put me off of all fords.
