Crossovers with carlike ride and handling characteristics are perennially popular, and a good example of the breed is the smart-looking Ford Edge. It's a midsize crossover with seating for five. Thanks to its roomy interior, long list of amenities and available all-wheel drive, it's typically a good match for small- and medium-size families seeking a do-it-all utility vehicle.

My New Edge - 2008 Ford Edge
By TamzLynn - April 23 - 10:27 amI absolutely loved driving my big Ford Expedition, but because of gas prices and $100 fill-ups, my husband & I decided to buy something smaller. I was very worried about feeling comfortable in a "smaller" vehicle b/c Im 510" and having enough leg & head room was a big problem in most of the vehicles that I test-drove. The Edge is a great CUV. It has a lot of pep and it handles really well. In the Edge feel like I have more leg room in the backseat that I did in my Expedition. We took it on our first road trip and we were able to fit luggage for 4 people and still had room to spare. I cant say enough good things about the SYNC system...LOVE IT

So Far we Love this New Edge - 2008 Ford Edge

We get a lot of second looks from people on the street, and people asking what it is. We have owned many Fords over the years and this new Edge is right close to the top of best Fords we have ever owned .Love it, love it, love it.

Back to Ford - 2007 Ford Edge
By Tony - April 16 - 1:56 pmI only have a few miles on the Edge, but its easy to see its a winner. I came back to Ford after a Chrysler van, and am happy I did. The van was a nice car, but the Edge is easier to drive, easier to enter and exit, easier to park, and has much better handling. It also has much better seats and better ergonomics everywhere. The styling is uncluttered; the car looks ultra modern both in an out. The expansive sunroof is a great feature. Multiple airbags everywhere make safety a strong suit as well. Its not perfect, but its way up there in its class. I did a detailed comparison, and the Edge won over the SanteFe, the VeraCruz, the Murano, the Pacifica, the Highlander, and the Pilot.

Very Happy with this vehicle - 2008 Ford Edge
By Jeff - April 14 - 5:12 pmI have the Limited version of the vehicle with every option except, the navigation sytem and auto-lift back. Vehicle is very fun to drive, responsive and gets far better gas milage then on the sticker. I am currently getting 30 mpg. This is for the most part highway driving at 70 MPH. So happy with the vehicle my wife bought one 2 weeks latter. Of course her has the navigation and lift-back. I truly believe Ford has a winner here.

Pros and cons - 2007 Ford Edge

Cons: no remote hatch release, back window does not open, brake noise when starting out if weather damp or rainy, front head rest push head forward, blind spot when changing lanes, gauges hard to see if lights on during the day. Too small back window to see through when backing up. Cant fit my large mcdonalds ice coffee in cup holder. Wish the gear handle was on the column so I had room for my purse or more cup holder space. The dash top shiny accent reflects in the windshild. Wish drivers door only unlock-hit button again for all doors unlock. Steering wheel conrols a bit small for a mans fingers.

By ikebhm - April 8 - 11:50 pmThis car is great. Pleasantly surprised after reading middling reviews from Consumer Reports and other car rags. The 3.5 engine is strong and economical, vista roof is a delight and the Sync system sold the deal. Sync is easy to use and set up and has USB to connect ipod for charging and full integration. Voice commands actually work. Heard about poor braking but have not found this is an issue, in everyday driving it goes and stops effortlessly. Getting about 25 mpg highway and 19 in town.

Very Nice SUV! - 2007 Ford Edge

We average 18mpg in city and anywhere from 21-22mpg winter time to 22-24mpg in the summer and have reached 26mpg a couple of times. The ride seems rough when riding in the passenger seat compared to the driver seat(just my opinion)we had sirius installed after we purchased the vehicle and wife loves that also. She like the looks and compares her edge to a less expensive looking lexus rx. no problems with tire pressure monitoring system as mentioned in some reviews

LOVE this car! - 2017 Ford Edge
By CA car lover - April 6 - 7:45 amUpdate 12/7/2017: Still loving this car! A joy to drive although the width can be a pain in urban parking lots where they think everybody has a Prius, LOL. Built-in NAV works very well altho you need to keep the Sirius subscription if you want traffic alerts! Sony sound system inferior to Bose but its okay (believe the 2018 models have dropped the Sony?). Love the quiet, the power, the braking and handling, the comfort (even if seats are still 1.5" too high). Still hate the cupholders, though! Be sure to make the sales rep show you all the hidden storage compartments. One of them we discovered by accident! The Edge Sport is really 2 cars in 1: in everyday driving, its a well-behaved, reasonably nimble SUV that drives smaller than it really is, due to good handling/braking. Great people and cargo hauler. We ordered 401A (Tech) pkg, Adaptive Cruise Control and Cargo Accessory pkg. Our 2010 Ford Fusion was an "almost" Accord beater--so close, but missed in too many small ways that were irritating. The Edge has corrected all those flaws: precision steering, better braking, much better seats, superior center console design (except for those cupholders; what in the world were they thinking?!?!?). Put it into "D" and drive with confidence, right off the bat. MySync 3 is easy to use, even for non-techies. But....slip it into "S" for Sport handling, and WOWIE !! Clark Kent vanishes and Superman takes his place! The moment your foot touches the accelerator, however gently, youll feel the immediate difference. The already good handling tightens up and the car takes off like the proverbial rocket (despite hefty size/weight). We flung it around tight corners on back country roads for an hour and had to seriously restrain ourselves! It handles so precisely, so cleanly; that after a short time you forget you are tossing almost 5000 lb. of tall high SUV around and not a 3400 lb. low-slung roadster. Mind you, its not as amazing as the Mondeo suspension used on the old Ford Contour, but weve driven (and owned) several other SUVs and none of them had this kind of flat-out FUN driveability. This is practicality wrapped around a fine drivers car. There are a few minor flaws: the center console cupholders are in a ridiculous place compared to other Ford models (your elbows run into them while driving). Our car, factory ordered (we did not want a moonroof), has a set of auxiliary headlights not working that the service dept. needs to fix. The cargo cover has an overly complicated close/open design vastly inferior to other mfgs. And.....well, premium gas is recommended, even though it can use regular. But youll get better performance and (according to some advice from someone who is familiar with Ford turbos) in the long run, better gas mileage as well, by using premium. BTW, far more comfortable than the new Lexus 350, whose seats are now thinner and less cushy. Only real flaws: Dumb cupholder position (should be vertically along passenger side, not horizontal where drivers arm runs into it). Front seat is too high, even at lowest point: are all Ford engineers 65" tall with long legs? Fusion had same issue!

Sold My Audi for this. - 2007 Ford Edge

I needed something to pull my 4 wheelers, that was as fun to drive as my Mustang, and my Audi turbo, and would be comfortable for road trips. My Audi was a fortune to maintiain. The Edge ride is so smooth. I like smoking BMW X5s off the line and the ride is very quiet. We love the look of it and I never get tired of driving it. Nice work Ford!!

America is getting back in the game! - 2008 Ford Edge
By NAFAS - March 27 - 8:59 pmIve owned many new cars, mostly foreign over the years. I was afraid to commit to American, because their track record was not the greatest. I decided to check out the Ford Edge since I was in the market for a new CUV mainly for my wife. I looked at all the competition, and we already own a 2007 Santa Fe. I have to take my hat off to Ford. Their business plan is working, because this car is absolutely amazing! Excellent feature set, great design, fantastic build quality, what more can you ask for. Compared to the competition, I believe they truly have an "edge." Im happy to support the American economy, now that Ford has a solid product! Fuel economy is on par with all other CUVs.
