This Year's Model Updates:

The 5.4-liter V8 and the 6.8-liter V10 gas engines generate more horsepower and torque. Four-wheel antilock brakes are now standard on all models. The Light Convenience Group (including courtesy lights, a rear cargo light, a chime warning module, a "headlamps on" alert and illuminated courtesy door lights) is now standard on all models. The handling package has been made standard on all Econolines. The towing package is standard on all wagons. The instrument panel has been simplified. Remote keyless entry and power sail-mount mirrors are standard on recreational vans.

Pros:
  • Massive people-hauling ability, increased horsepower, wide range of configurations.
Cons:
  • Really too big for normal family use.

We purchased this "used" vehicle from the dealer in 2000, it was never registered but had 4,000 miles on it as it was used as a model. It has been a great family car/van. It has never given us any trouble in the ten years that we have owned it and it is now fast approaching 100K miles. We have properly maintained it, so no major issues. Great for long trips especially when you have young children and much better to own than a conventional family van. Now though at 10 years and 100K miles, leather interior is starting to peel away. It might require some transmission work soon, but heck havent had any transmission issues in 100K miles. My biggest and only complaint, gas mileage.

We bought this van when we were expecting our fourth child and weve really enjoyed it. We have four captain chairs and we love the way we can herd all the kids in and shut the doors before we get everybody in their seats. For a big family I think this car is a better buy and more comfortable than any SUV weve had. My husband wants to trade mine and get a newer model but at 106,000 miles it still runs great. If I ever get another, Ill spring for a high top with leather seats.

  • A lot of flaws but incredible ride - 2000 Ford Econoline Wagon

I actually own a E-250 van which they dont include here when choosing your model. The ride and comfort are second to none although the front passenger side has very little leg room. The front end on this van is awful and my mech has told me this is because of the frame that Ford refuses to change and has been the same since the stone age. I bought this as a new van with only 5 miles on it at purchase and have spent easily 5k on the front end, Ball joints, shimmers, tie rods and have gone through numerous tires because of the front ends problem. Most of my problems have been with the conversion company which is named Explorer. I have had a leak in the seal of the roof. Numerous sm, prob w/con

We bought this van six years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It not only carries a large number of people, but it has been extremely reliable.

Our E150 is a conversion van. It has 160,000+ miles on it and just started showing some rust. With four kids we had plenty of room and plenty of fun times. Everyone loves being able to see so much when we are driving. With two in college, we need to downsize. I will miss this vehicle.

  • Ford E350 XLT V10 Super Duty Wagon - 2000 Ford Econoline Wagon

I have had this van for alomst a year and a half. I am currently (10/8/02) selling it on Ebay because I am "udgrading" to a diesel Excursion. This van is perfect for everyday driving and when its time to pull a BIG (9500 pounds) load, it is there for you with the V10. I would still keep this van if I could afford it. Overall, I would rate it an 8.

  • It moves a bunch of people or stuff - 2000 Ford Econoline Wagon

I have 5 kids, so the minivan was not an option. This is a tank - I have a 7.3L diesel engine in mine, which should run for a few 100,000 miles. It is great for long trips, but not something that you want to use to run back and forth to the grocery store. Take out the seats and it will carry almost anything. It does not have all the nice touches of the luxury mini- vans - it is a bus. I have not had any mechanical problems. The fit and finish are not great - since I traded in an acura on this van it took a little getting uses to the molded plastic doors and loose fitting pieces.

  • we keep buying them - 2000 Ford Econoline Wagon

We have our 4th E-150 on order. Its a truck, dont expect sports car handling or mini car gas milege, but is very quiet. The only unexpected repair for 3 vans has been a power steering pump that leaked and had to be replaced. The 5.4 L pulls everything and holds 6 or more bikes behind the third seat(we mountain bike and camp) if you have 3 or more kids, travel alot, and take everything with you, you can not beat it.

  • Versatility - 2000 Ford Econoline Wagon

This van hauls anything, and does it flawlessly. Even weighing in at 19,000 pounds with trailer, it still offers good performance. Center aisle seating option makes the long trips extremely comfortable. Unloaded acceleration and handling is above average even compared to V6 family sedans.
