This Year's Model Updates:

The Contour replaces the Tempo to compete with European and Japanese compacts. Based on the European Mondeo, the Contour has front-wheel drive and dual airbags. Traction control and antilock brakes are available on all models, as is a V6 engine that produces an impressive 170 horsepower.

  • It just keeps on going - 1995 Ford Contour

Bought my 95 Contour LX with the 4-cyl 5-speed manual transmission. Ive been trying to convince myself to buy another car for 6 years now - I have failed over and over again. This car certainly isnt flashy or super powerful, but believe or now it is fun to drive. The two big complaints with this car are ridiculous cup holders and not enough leg room in the back for adults. Mechanically I had issues with the OEM rear struts had them replaced at 20K mi under warranty, then again at 35K mi. At 60K mi I had Midas install non-Ford struts. Am now pushing 215K mi with those same struts. Other than the usual maintenance, this car has been fantastic.

I am very pleased with my Contour. Going on 10 years now, I am rounding 100K and the car continues to run great. Now, mostly my wife uses it as a weekend car to run errands take the kids to soccer practice etc. Very safe vehicle. Great on gas.

  • Great Car, Sweet Ride - 1995 Ford Contour

I have loved my Contour. I have not had to have any work done on the car with the exception of reconditioning the air conditioning unit. After almost 150,000 miles, I am amazed at how well the car runs and performs. The 2.5 liter V6 Duratec engine provides the perfect blend of horsepower and fuel economy.

  • Like a single Mom - 1995 Ford Contour

It gets up and goes when its sick, when its hurt, when it just doesnt feel like it. Dont have the extra funds to put into a vehicle just to keep it in pristine, like-new running shape. A WORK HORSE! Program car with 32k when I bought it. Roomy, comfy, a huge trunk. It just keeps going and going until I have the funds to do routine maintenance for a machine: brakes, motor mounts, tie rods, sensors, etc. Ford Dealerships suggest thousands in repairs. I choose per my budget. Energetically runs on for years before I get to the other items on the Dealers list. Was disappointed when I looked around and learned that I couldnt plan on buying a new one.

  • Still love it after 9 years! - 1995 Ford Contour
    By -

I ordered this car in early 1995, and nearly 9 years later Im still thrilled with it. The body is still tight, the V6 still smooth and torquey. It has been reliable, the first time it let me down was a few weeks ago when the water pump went (after 8.5 years and 76k miles). Its a shame that it was cancelled. Reviewers always complained about the back seat, but I think this is a perfect sized small sedan.

  • Whats wrong? - 1995 Ford Contour

I have a 1995 GL 4-cyl 5-spd manual with 116000 miles. It has been one of the best cars Ive owned, so why do so many people have so many complaints? After reading all the reviews heres the secret. 1) Get the manual transmission -- the automatic is unreliable and sluggish. 2) Replace the water pump and timing belt before 100,000 miles (doing these at the same time saves a lot on labor) -- they break down shortly after 100,000 and the repair after the fact costs more than the value of the car.

  • This is a Great Car! - 1995 Ford Contour

I am the original owner and have put 110,000 miles on a 1995 GL 4-cylendar 5- speed manual Contour. I have only done routine maintenance on it with the exception of a blasted electrical problem with the cooling fan that was recalled and has been repaired several times -- but at Fords expense! There have been no other problems with the car. I think I get more miles per dollar spent with this car than any car I kmnow of. And as a bonus, its peppy and fun to drive (although I am told the version with the automatic transmission is sluggish).
