Had a 2012 Ford Focus that I liked very much except for the rough shifting trans and cramped rear leg room. Drove the C- Max and fell in love with it. Better visability, more comfortable seats, Love the cvt transmission, floor it and it just goes, No gear hunting, good handling and good rear seat leg room. As others have stated gas mileage is not as good as advertised. Cold weather really effects mileage. Driven as instructed in the owners manual in 50 degree weather have averaged 46 in suburban driving on one tank, when its cooler 42. Highway mileage over 60 is 38 to 40. To get the best highway mileage you cant go over 60. Most hybrids get better mileage in town than on the highway.

  • Mile High C-MAXXing! - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid

Driving a C-Max at Denvers mile high elevation for the past two months and 1720 miles has been a very satisfying experience. CMax has performed very well in the cold (-5F to 25F) and snow delivering a consistent 37.4mpg. As spring temperatures warmed to 50-70F the mileage climbed to 45-50mpg. Driving is a 50/50 city/highway mix. With lowest mpg 29.7mpg in a blizzard and 93.3mpg on a 3 mile downhill drive from shopping. CMAX was our #1 choice over the Prius and Prius V because the Ford proved to be a better mix of mpg, driving capability and interior comfort. This car is simply fun to drive. Took it up Floyd Hill in the fast lane - nuff said. Have enjoyed every minute in this car!

  • Sold my Prius to buy this. Mileage is stuck at 39 - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid

To start with let me say that I really like my C-Max. The 47/47 mileage rating however is a joke. I have been trying so hard to get my mileage up higher and it just isnt going up. I now have 2,400 miles on the car with City mileage about 70%. I sold my 2007 Prius to buy this. Was ready for a new car, needed more space. Looked at several other models including the Prius V. The C-Max is just more fun to drive, quieter great build quality with a couple of exceptions. Coming out of a Prius I am used to babying the car, drifting into red lights and stops, watching up ahead to let the accelerator off early. I dont punch it ever except to get on the freeway. With all that just 39.3 mpg.

This is a great car. We enjoy driving very much. The milage has been great. According to the on board computer we are getting just under 47 MPG. However when we manually calculate we are getting 49 MPG (mostly city driving). The car handles well and rides well. We are very pleased at this point. The only thing I can say bad about it at this point is the sync system doesnt work well. It will recognize my wifes voice but it will not recognize mine. We need to stop back at the dealer to see if they have any suggestions. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone who is interested in a hybrid.

  • Not a Prius Killer! 31MPG - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
    By -

Open letter to Ford: I thought my 2013 C-MAX would be a Prius Killer? NOT! As a returning Ford buyer I feel deceived. I want to support US companies and US jobs. What was Ford thinking when they published 47/ 47/47 estimates? Based on the advertised EPA estimates, I would have been ok with low 40s but 28-33 mpg is not even in the ballpark. This is not an issue about EPA testing standards, but rather an issue about setting false customer expectations in order to promote sales. Fords "47MPG" marketing campaign tarnished what should have been the roll out of a truly remarkable vehicle, the CMAX. Real world MPG estimates should have been promoted in the mid-30s.

  • Cmax SEL Not Cold Weather Car - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
    By -

I have a Cmax SEL, and there is a lot to love about this car. It is cute, fun to drive, and the visibility is excellent for drivers of all heights. Unfortunately, the main reason I purchased this car was the reported 47mpg, but in cold weather (<45 deg), the Cmax doesnt even come close to 47mpg. The gas engine comes on to heat up the cold car engine and the mileage plummets. On a short cold-weather trip (even without the heat on, another mpg reducer) it is common to see a Trip mpg reading of 19mpg or less. In warmer weather (using neither heat or AC) this same trip would yield a Trip mpg reading of 48mpg or more. If its cold where you live, Cmax may not be for you.

Bought my C-Max SEL in January 2013, model 303A with pano roof. I have 1800 miles driven, primarily in city and suburban settings. Bought this vehicle mostly as a commuter car, but wanted rear hatch to have flexibility carrying larger objects. There has been a lot of chatter about the mileage published versus real life. The EPA tests are not real world. If I can get in the 40s I am good. Would buy a C-Max again. If you want solely the highest mileage get a Prius, but dont expect much of a driving experience. The C-Max will give you some fun an dfeel while driving.

  • Beware 47 mpg claim - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
    By -

Had the car for about 10 days. Average mpg so far, 36. Id be happy with 43 or 44, but there have been only THREE occasions when the small instant trip mpg guide popped up and showed mpg over 47. I mostly drive this car on shorter trips of 5-10 miles. Only if you can miraculously keep the gas engine off will you be able to get above 40. This is with acceleration so slow as to be a hazard to traffic kind of driving. I had one perfect condition (50-55 mpg) parkway driving trip of about 50 miles that still couldnt produce but 40 mpg and the return on interstate doing 70 was 36 mpg and mostly flat constant conditions. NO WAY this car is going to meet EPA reported 47 - 37 yes, not 47.

  • 2013 C-Max SEL - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid

3 mos, 6K miles later, love my C-Max SEL, would buy it again today. Way more comfortable than Prius V with WAY better acceleration and handling. I drive 65% freeway, heavy foot; MPG slightly disappointing 36+ most of the time, but in town on level roads in traffic I can easily top 42 mpg. Love the handling, 17" wheels and seat height, rear-seat fold-downs/cargo space, driver seat controls (wish passenger side had them). Dont love the less-than-hoped for MPG, and the driver seat gets hard on long trips. DONT love flat-fix stuff instead of a spare tire; already had two punctures (surprising for Michelin tires!), but warning lights gave me enough time to get somewhere for fixing.

  • C-Max Hits a Home Run - 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
    By -

I just took delivery of a new Ford C-Max yesterday after seeing one at the November 2011 LA Auto Show and seeing several on the road in Turkey; theyve been available in Europe for two years now (including a model with three rows of seats thats not available in the U.S.). In its first 100 miles, its getting mileage in the mid-30s, well off of the official EPA rating of 47. But Im learning how to drive it to improve the fuel economy. Theres a gauge that shows both instantaneous economy and that achieved over several 5-minute intervals. Its amazing how backing off a little on the gas pedal can switch the instantaneous mileage from 20 to 60 (the top figure on the gauge).
