  • A Great Piece of Junk - 1990 Ford Aerostar
    By -

What an indestructible piece of junk! It has 160,000 miles. It has rust through the body, none of the accessories work, the interior is torn up, the paint is peeling and the suspension is shot, but it just keeps going. It needed a new transmisson, but that was due to the previous owners neglect. We drive it like we hate it. It needs a quart of oil every 500 miles and always needs coolant, but we maintain it and it keeps going. The only other items repaired were a broken brake caliper and door latch. This vehicle is used for dump runs, driving off road and is driven hard on the highway, but it keeps going. The gas mileage is terrible (less than 15 mpg), but it isnt driven economically.

Bought this great van with 170,000 miles on it. Didnt believe it would last, but drove it another 33,000 miles since then and its still going fast and easy.

  • not the best - 1995 Ford Aerostar

We bought this van 1 1/2 years ago, and have done nothing but pour money into it. The whole engine has given out, the cam shaft is broke, both heads cracked, weve had to put in a new radiator, water pump, rack and pinion, and other things I am too frustrated to remember. A lousy deal for us. Beware.

  • Good people/cargo hauler - 1996 Ford Aerostar

Bought used with 153,000 miles. Have had good luck. Only major repair was a blown intake manifold gasket ($650). have had the typical nickel and dime expenses of American made vehicles. Fuel economy stinks but the 4wheel drive is great and it can haul a ton of stuff and tow over 2 tons without whining. Overall not a bad vehicle. The new minivans on the market have almost as much room and towing capacity with better fuel economy.

  • Terrible piece of junk - 1994 Ford Aerostar

My uncle bought this car simply to drive to work back and forth carrying himself and his restraunt supplys. Hes a calm guy and he never driveres fast than 60 mph. Even still the car is falling apart. The lights no longer work, the gauges are giving out false readings, and practically the whole electrical componets are defected. The car is falling apart simply by driving it slowly. The whole cabin shakes and rattles on the freeway. Maybe the only thing I like about it is the comfortable front row seats. The rest is poor quality. Even the engine. I will never buy a Ford ever again. But they might make good trucks. Not vans or cars.

  • At 162,000 miles it is going strong! - 1996 Ford Aerostar
    By -

This van has traveled the Western US and Canada from Anchorage to the Baja and in weather from -60 F on the Alaska Highway to 111 F in the Utah desert. It has lived in Anchorage, Seattle, and San Jose. Other than a problem with the oil pan gasket leaking twice and Ford standing by their faulty repair ($500) there has only been routine maintenance. Interior storage is excellent and it hauls large and heavy loads. We packed it to the max for the move from Seattle to San Jose and it didnt sag down in the back. Great gas mileage for a truck at 24 - 25 mpg. Paint has held up very well with minimal waxing (every couple of years when I remember).
