  • Wish They Still Made Them! - 1991 Ford Aerostar

Bought van used with 70k miles and its now at 168k & running strong. Bought it to replace a 1995 Plymouth Voyager after it was totaled & the biggest difference noticed was all the extra room. We had 4 kids at the time & van is huge with extra big cargo area & storage even under seats. Lots of headroom. Can comfortably haul from kids to couches. Engine & transmission mechanically sound with only routine maintenance light oil usage only problem. 3.0L V-6 not enough power & it strains when accelerating but rides smooth once going. Gas mileage good at 17 city, 25 hwy. Seats have thick cushions instead of thin like new vans weve rented. Weve kept van as spare because no new van is as roomy. We wish this model was still made!

  • Ugly but reliable! - 1991 Ford Aerostar

This beast now has 185,000 miles the only problem Ive had is an engine knock that gets better as the engine warms up (been knocking for a long time), and a wicked vibration under acceleration. Leaks a little oil but you know you can drive it any where. The AWD is great it gets better traction than my Grand Cherokee. If the body would last as long as the engine I would keep it forever.

  • What a piece of junk! - 1990 Ford Aerostar

I drive this van to school every day and it gets horrific gas mileage. In winter it has gone as far down as a whopping 7 mpg. The rust is unbelievable and the exterior design is quite flawed. The interior is nice however. What this van really needs is a lot more power. It seems like sometimes it did not want to go at all and if you are on any sort of incline at all it wont break 75 no matter how hard you press on the gas. It never heats up either. The traction is terrible. In snow if you just tap the gas the tires will spin like crazy.

  • Ford - Resurrect the Aerostar! - 1993 Ford Aerostar

Our XLT 2WD Extended - best all-around vehicle weve ever owned (out of 16). Invaluable as people mover with 7 seats as well as a cargo hauler with the seats out. We have moved tons of furniture and computers in it this way. We have used it to move kids off to summer camp in NC (from northern VA) as well as to college and home again over many years. Without it, would have had to rent a moving truck/van at a cost that would have paid for 20 percent of the new cost of the van itself. We even moved an upright baby grand piano in this baby! The interior height is sooo much better than what you find in other minivans. Very reliable. Low cost to operate. City/hwy avg of 18 mpg. Ford - Bring it back!

  • Best van ever owned - 1997 Ford Aerostar
    By -

This van is the best van we have ever bought. We have owned other makes and the Ford Aerostar is the only one that has lasted us. I would not change it out for any other many van now made. The Ford Aerostar was the greatest minivan made. Its a shame that they stopped making it and came up with the Ford Windstar then the Freestar, which are garbage.

  • king of the road - 1992 Ford Aerostar

superior family/dog/supply moving vehicle. with high seating and a real frame around the van this vehicle provides real piece of mind. outside of the subpar starters that were supplied with this van , the rest of the equipment does the job , in comfort. The AWD feature makes this van unstoppable on the worst days. god bless ford

  • Great For Up Here - 1994 Ford Aerostar
    By -

This is the perfect minivan for Canadians or Alaskans. It can move up to eight people, in a BLIZZARD! Ive never had problems with this except for the alternator. Up here in Canada, we are always digging out after snowstorms. The roads are icy and what not. This van will make it through 2 feet of snow better than a 4X4 Chevy! Kudos to whoever came up with this idea.

  • Theres good news, theres bad news - 1994 Ford Aerostar

I bought this Aerostar when it had 22,000 miles on it. It has never stranded me by the side of the road (unlike my Escort!), but it has given me some scares such as when the throttle control was dying and the darn thing was doing the herky-jerky on the interstate at 70mph! As with all Fords, the electrical stuff is crap. Gauges that cant be trusted, dash lights that flicker, idiot lights that light up whenever they feel like it. However, the engine is strong, strong, strong. This vehicle will run for another 100k. No problems with transmission either. Can haul anything, massive storage capacity. Decent mileage, 18/24! Rear brakes never worked, all braking done in front.

  • My rear wheel drive BOX - 1993 Ford Aerostar
    By -

Great van to own and drive around the place. Very comfortable to sit in the drivers seat. Only problem is with the ignition switch that has problems with the ears where you have to line it up just right to get the key in to start the vehicle. 3.0 engine has an excellent track record, which makes this a much better and reliable van than the sorry 3.8 liter V6 that Ford put out for the Windstar. That Windstar was a failure and disgrace to the FORD name. Ford should bring Aerostar back with a few improvements. The best thing about it is: you guessed it "REAR WHEEL DRIVE" -- that is music to the ears of mechanics and people like me that are not big fans of front wheel drive! GREAT VEHICLE!
