The Jeep/Eagle division was formed in 1988 shortly after Chrysler bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987.

At the time, Detroit brands like Chrysler were trying to fend off increasing sales by import brands with the creation of their own import-style sales divisions. Eagle began with the Renault-influenced products developed for AMC, the Eagle Premier and the Eagle Medallion. The rest of the division's portfolio was filled out by vehicles from Mitsubishi, the Japanese company that had long been Chrysler's partner in the importation of small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Jeep sales gave some energy to the Eagle division, but once Chrysler broke off the sport-utility brand and made it available to its own dealers as the SUV boom began in the 1990s, the Eagle brand quickly foundered. Chrysler announced the end of the Eagle brand in November 1997 and the last Eagle Talon, a badge-engineered version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, came off the assembly line shortly thereafter.

  Now Very Rare for parts - 1991 Eagle Talon

  As of 2009 replacement parts are becoming next to impossible, electronic part failure may mean weeks with out a running vehicle. I purchased mine new in 1991 and loved it. But like having an elderly dog it comes time to put it down. "was" a great car.... If your looking at picking one up cheap, theres a reason its a good deal, you will be forking over money to your mechanic hand over fist.

  From the test drive on, I loved it. Its fast, fun, fun and fun. Just like a gorgeous girlfriend, I loved taking it out and showing it off. Boy, I was a proud man. After a couple of years, I noticed that the alternator just didnt keep pace with the demands of electronics. Ive gone through about 5 alternators & about 10 batteries. Im now on my third water pump. Im actually happy that the original starter is still working. What Im trying to say is, keeping up with maintenance on this car has been more than what I expected. This is especially true of the need to replace the timing belt at regular intervals. Its a fun car but being married to her takes a lot of work!

  Belt Problems - 1998 Eagle Talon

  Got this car about a year and a half ago and its thrown the power steering belt 8 times and its gotten to the point where I cant rely on the car to get from point a to point b. Doesnt help that I had to replace the clutch 2 months after purchasing the car. Definitely would not buy another.

  I owned a 1992 Eagle Talon from 92-97 and have hated myself ever since for trading it in (family, big cars, no fun). Never wanted another sports car (not a car dude, but LOVED the Talon styling - especially the bump on the hood). Talon always had more aggressive body styling than its twin, the Eclipse. To make a long story short, recently I was in the market for a new car, and, just for fun, I Googled for the ultimate (style-wise) Talon - the 1998. Found my dream car 100 miles away in NoCal, Turbo, Red, only 37,000 miles (!!!) Had no idea how rare it was (only 4307 made!) - I bought it the next morning. Driving is FUN AGAIN! It was like getting re-acquainted with an old friend.

  The car so far has done well. One common problem though, is the cracked head gasket (which is expensive to fix). My car has many extras so of course, there is more to go wrong. But so far, its been a good car.

  I bought this car from a friend a couple of years back and now it is over 175,000 miles and just wont quit. The a/c is dead and the clips to the windshield wipers fluids tubers are broke, cant replace these either but it always starts no matter the weather and kicks snow out of the way better than most trucks I have driven ( 2 foot snow drifts? this car laughed at them). The check engine light also goes on for no reason. Have had it on the computer half dozen times without any problems. Get up and go is great, passes other vehicles easily. Oh and if your taller than 57" your going to hit your head almost every time getting into this pretty little car. I love my purple beast.

  This has been an awesome car. I had the vehicle oiled 5 times and it still has maintained a rust free vehicle with now just over 172000 kms. I plan on getting it repainted as the exterior clear coat has given way. Garage kept and well oiled this vehicle has given pretty much great driving with 2 new batteries since I took ownership. The engine, 3.5 litre is one of the best, giving quick acceleration and great highway performance when required. I used to burn premium gas but now it seems to run well just on regular. Good trunk room, great leather interior and a modern look keep this car in my garage. I almost bought another one when I saw it going for peanuts on ebay. A great car.

  It wont die - 1995 Eagle Vision

  I bought this car from a friend about 3 years ago, it is now turning 175,000 miles and it just wont die, actually getting tired of hitting my head getting into the car as I am all of 5,9". Love the hide away cup holders and mystic purple color. Things not so great, a/c is dead, clips that hold the windshield wipers lines in place broke and cant replace as they dont make this car anymore. In 3 years I have replaced the belts, spark plugs and the oil. That is about it. Oh and for winter driving. I can plow through 2 foot snow drifts and thankfully not get stuck.

  Bought with manual tr. ,used, 150K, with 2 valves blown, smoked heavily, fixed only 2 valves and head gasket, smoke didnt dissapear, was told all exhaust valves needed to be replaced. Major problem : if you have asian made Summit it has 90% parts of Mitsubishi Expo! Buy only parts that look like the one you have inside. When I asked for ignition rotor for Summit it was different from Expo, that coused a lot of problems. Starter the same fuel filter the same Always buy parts for both Expo and Summit and return the wrong ones. Remove fuse for seatbelts click manually save motors. Watch tranny fluid, had problem shifting, synchron was going bad - $ 1000.- job Shift slowly so clutch engages

  12 years ago, I bought this car for my wifes birthday. Now, I drive it to work. My 83 mile commute is a blast. Even though the car has 162000 miles on it, it still gets up to 90 when I pass. I have only spent about 1000 in parts over the past 5 years. My total cost per mile is about $0.17 over the lifetime of the car. It still gets 27 miles per gallon. I could not be happier with this vehicle.
