Make Overview:

The Jeep/Eagle division was formed in 1988 shortly after Chrysler bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987.

At the time, Detroit brands like Chrysler were trying to fend off increasing sales by import brands with the creation of their own import-style sales divisions. Eagle began with the Renault-influenced products developed for AMC, the Eagle Premier and the Eagle Medallion. The rest of the division's portfolio was filled out by vehicles from Mitsubishi, the Japanese company that had long been Chrysler's partner in the importation of small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Jeep sales gave some energy to the Eagle division, but once Chrysler broke off the sport-utility brand and made it available to its own dealers as the SUV boom began in the 1990s, the Eagle brand quickly foundered. Chrysler announced the end of the Eagle brand in November 1997 and the last Eagle Talon, a badge-engineered version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, came off the assembly line shortly thereafter.

  • My two cents - 1991 Eagle Talon

What a great car. While its not the most reliable car Ive owned, its not really terible. As long as you take care of it and dont abuse it too much this car will last. The engine is completely bulletproof. The only real problem is the transmission. In the performance arena, mine is still capable of ripping up new mustangs and camaros. I have put about $1000 into it fyi. If you do get one of these cars make sure that you take care of it. Dont push that oil change for 4000 miles. With that said its a blast and good in the snow.

Trans overhauled 59000 miles, two Right Front trans axels, stalls for no reason on occasions of high humidity and heat with in the first few minutes of driving. Dealer has no answer, fuel system very poor on second fuel sensor and fueling system takes forever to refuel vehicle, dealer says 1000.00 to replace fuel tank. Chrysler wont admit it it defective. A/C repaired 59,000 miles.

  • fast and fun, but unreliable - 1992 Eagle Talon

i owned a 92 eagle talon TSi AWD untill about 3 months ago. the car was nothing but problems for me. i paid about 5500 for the car a little aver a year and a half ago. while it was very fun to drive, and the ability to smoke any civic is fun, the bad outwieghed the good. i put $1600 into a new tranny, $1500 into a new cylander head and timing belt, and then i threw a rod, which would have been at least $3000 to fix. that is with no performance parts on the car, i threw a rod, it is a poorly designed vehicle, panels rusted, despite constant waxing, when the car was babyed, still had problems.

  • Reliable, Comfortable and Fun to Drive - 1991 Eagle Summit

This car has been reliable and has only required the scheduled maintenance and the replacement of the expected parts that suffer from normal wear and tear. The car gets gas mileage from 25 in the winter in town to 41 MPG in warm weather on the hiway. It survived running into the side of Taurus that ran a stop lite with only damage to the lite lens. The Taurus did not fair as well ).

This vehicle required a new transaxle at about 120,000 miles. My tendancy is to blame the fact that I autocrossed it with the SCCA the first couple years I owned it. I replaced it with a used unit with 80,000 miles on it, and I have driven it an additional 60,000 miles with no further trouble. It does use a qt. of oil between changes at 3,000, but still runs strong and gets good mileage.

  • 1994 Talon TSi (front drive) - 1994 Eagle Talon

This is an awsome car for the money. Comes sotck with 195hp and can be boosted to 230hp by simply adding a bleader valve on the waste-gate. This car is extremely reliable considering the performance it delivers everyday with no major mechanical failure. My only complaint is "rough idle". The looks are second only to newer 2nd generation Talon, otherwise its very well designed. Stay away from the AWD. The transmission seems to be weak on that model. The front drive tranny is very reliable just as long as you dont abuse it. This car is still capable of running with big boys like Mustang GT and Subaru WRX considering its age. NICE JOB MITSUBISHI!!!!!!!
