Overview & Reviews
The Avenger nameplate has been dropped from the Dodge lineup, replaced by the all-new Stratus coupe. The Stratus sedan continues with a full redesign but retains many of its predecessor's body lines. A new engine debuts along with additional safety features that make the Stratus a family sedan in the truest sense. Last year we marveled at the list of standard options on this moderately priced sedan; this year we're rechecking our numbers again as more features debut for 2001.
- Exceptional value, attractive shape, fun to drive.

Good while it lasted. - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Anomaly21 - November 13 - 10:58 pmThis car (the coupe) is just a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a different outer body. Its fun to drive and I still got complements even though its an 01. I traded it about a month ago with 80K miles. The transmission went without any warning whatsoever, the interior was falling apart (dash cracking in sun, door handle breaking) and paint on the door was chipping. This was upseting because I felt like I was fighting a loosing battle in tring to keep it nice, by the end it looked like I treated it like crap which was not the case. It was fun to drive with good performance from the Eclipse 3.0 200hp v6. It however kind of stunk in the winter even though it was front wheel drive and had decent tires.

Good solid car - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By dab - September 26 - 2:14 pmNow over 6 yrs old, has never given much trouble. Have had 2 wheel bearings, one covered by warranty, and heater fan lost 1 speed. Also a tie rod replaced. FM portion of radio just stopped working. Thats it for repairs! Have driven coast to coast. Average mpg lifetime around 31 mpg with 2.4 liter engine/automatic. Original tires went over 76K miles.

Good while still new - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By TK - August 29 - 8:28 amI bought the Stratus barely used and overall it hasnt been a bad car. I have not had a lot of major problems under the hood. However, the air conditioning has been a constant problem since about 60,000 miles. It is repaired and then goes out again soon after. This last time, I took the car to 3 reliable/well known mechanics in the Chicago area who were all unable to determine the cause of the problem. I suppose their could be worse things- as the car runs, but it is very frustrating not to have air constantly. I have come across many others with dodge vehicles who have reported the exact same prob. with ac and have also had difficulty wih getting it repaired.

Mitsubishi=good Dodge=bad - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Great car - May 7 - 5:45 pmEverything about this car is Mitsubishi except the frame and paint. What screwed up? The paint. I caution those considering one of these that is black. This car is a 2001, and by 2004 the paint was burning off in the sun, and I live in a temperate climate zone. The ride is like the v6 Eclipse, fast, smooth, and comfortable. The car is very fun to drive and has held up great for 88k miles thus far. Uses expensive tires and likes to eat them, but if you drive conservatively this shouldnt be too much of a problem. And, for a sports car, this car gets pretty good fuel economy. I gauged it at 26mpg using 93 octane gasoline. I love this car and will hate to get rid of it. Poor warranty

Anyone ever see/read "Christine"? - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Jason - February 4 - 9:39 amYes thats correct, I think I love my car a little too much. I dont know what I like best about my Stratus R/T but a few of my favorite things are the handling, the ability to accelerate in traffic, the feeling of being "attatched" to the road via the low profile tires and stiff suspension, the leather seats and the stock "Infinity" 4 disc changer. Love the looks of the car and the way Ive seen people stop and take a gander at it. What can I say, Im in love.

Run of the mill sedan - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Dave - January 21 - 9:32 amVery frusturating car to own. Ive experienced steering and electrical problems from day one. Blower fan not working on all speeds, radio turning on/off by itself, rear defroster problems. Had to replace the rack and pinion at 42,000 miles. Transmission pan to low to ground making it easy to bottom out resulting in leaks.

I would recommend this to anybody! - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By DodgeMan - September 22 - 3:44 pmI Bought my 2001 Stratus SE Coupe last year at 100,000 miles for $7,000. It runs still to this day with no problems. Sure there are oil changes every 3,000 miles, but nothing else! Runs beautiful still to this day, and now has 203,000 miles Wow!

Great Car - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Dublin89 - September 13 - 5:37 pmI bought my Stratus SE 4cy a little over a month ago, and so far Im very pleased. Im getting about 28mpg, and thats with mixed driving from highway and city. The only things I have had troubles with so far is about a week after I bought the car, the engine light came on and they cant find the problem. The car still runs great.

Id buy another - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By Ray Bank - July 2 - 1:19 pmThis has been a fine car in nearly all respects. The only gripes I have is the difficulty of replacing the air filter and the battery. Otherwise, the car has everything I want: looks, performance, handling, comfort and economy. I have the 2.7 V-6. Maintenance costs have been minimal and I have 77,400 miles on it. Ive been looking at other cars, but I guess Ill just wait until they come out with the re-styled Stratus and Sebring sedans.

Very fun and fast mid size car! - 2001 Dodge Stratus
By BLAIZE - June 20 - 7:44 pmThis car is by far the best sports car Ive driven. With 200hp and 205lb torque, you cant go wrong. Taking off each time is like cake walk. Put the car in 3rd gear, and at 1500rpm, it takes off easy! Again the torque is amazing. The tires are very sticky. Suspension is perfect. I recommend the 5 speed manual trans. The inside is like a cockpit of a plane. Its also very low to the ground, but thats the whole point. This cars power band is 100% perfect as well, as there is no lag whatsoever. Overall, its worth it if you like to go fast. Its not as small as a Honda Civic, but it kicks the crap out of it! I recommend that you buy this car!
