Decent car for money - 1994 Dodge Spirit
By Ray - April 28 - 10:28 amHard to find a more rounded car for the $$. I own a 91 Plymouth Acclaim and a 94 Spririt. They have the usual issues around 100k such as the head gasket and the paint on the 94 (white) is flaking off. I get 22mpg average which is not too bad. The local salvage yard is full of these cars so parts are almost free. The car has a surprising amount of room and decent build quality. Ive had both cars head gaskets replaced around 90k. I bought a rebuilt head for the 94 for <200.00. The ignition switch broke in both cars but is a really easy fix. I found a car at the salvage yard with a new switch and keys in it. Slapped it in and off I went. I keep spares on hand from salvaged cars.

Good car some repairs - 1994 Dodge Spirit
By mark - July 18 - 8:37 amWhen I bought the car it had a burnt valve, and because of that it would idle in reverse or drive. The head gasket is a problem, but the engine is hard to hurt. It can pull a 1,000 pound trailer with 500 pounds of equipment. When you work the problems out due to age. Its a nice car.

She has done well by me - 1994 Dodge Spirit
By nikkortim - January 20 - 2:00 amI bought my Spirit with 17,600 miles on it and put on an average of 40,000 a year. I had the good transmission, but had the leaky head gasket with the 2.5 and replaced that twice. Only 1 CV joint ever went out. Its a blast to drive in town and ran well on the Interstate. With almost 250K miles and an overheating issue that I cannot resolve I have finally said goodbye to the probably one of the best cars I haved ever owned. I attribute the long life to highway miles and Castrol Syntec.

A pretty good car - 1994 Dodge Spirit
By emfelter - June 10 - 2:00 amAside from the well-documented transmission problems (Im on my 2nd rebuild in 103k miles!) this is a very comfortable car to drive. It gets good gas milage and is easy to park. At this point in their lives, a handymans special.
