Just purchased it 2 days ago and have 190 miles on the odometer. Very fast, although i HAVE YET BEEN ABLE TO SPIN THE WHEELS (maybe the LSD will not permit that). Car is very comfortable, and I love the racing seats. Brakes stop excellent. Paint is almost flawless, but the sound system could be better-price is GREAT!

Overall I would have to say I like this car. The acceleration is awesome, but the engine is too loud. Brakes are nice. Shifting is too stiff, and acceleration in first gear is difficult since its FWD. If you accelerate too fast, the front tires bounce so it slows you down a little. The car seems to make some funny noises in the motor which Im praying are just noise and not an upcoming problem. I had a 2001 Neon SE, and they are very similar in driving (except for the turbo). It kind of scares me though, since after 70,000 miles the Neon SE began losing power and the brakes got worse.

I bought my car in July of ‘03. Its an 03 SE model in Black (not much different from the 04 SE) Im a college student & I needed a car that was reliable & that could handle being driven on 6 hr long road trips between my school and home, aswell as a car that looked & felt good to drive. When I test drove it I knew this was the car I wanted. I’ve had no mechanical problems. Ive added a spoiler & CD player, plus other things that I will install shortly. Interestingly enough, if I had to do it again I wouldnt buy it, only because after I got my car I noticed other cars that looked sportier, but I definitely dont regret getting my Neon!

I got the car 2 years ago because I needed something more reliable to drive to work. It has done a fair job for much, much less then a Mazda.

  • Whats up with those damned brakes???? - 2004 Dodge Neon

I really love my car & the way it drives. Its quick, responsive, & fun. The engine is perfect for this car...it has just enough power for performance without a great fuel cost, all of which leaves me to wonder why Daimler put such a flawed & NOISY brake system on em. When I first start her up , regardless of environmental conditions, as soon as I step on the brakes I hear the most awful grinding/squealing sound coming from the wheels. With every subsequent stop the noise is reduced bit until several miles into my journey it stops all together. I have taken it into the dealership just to be told that the brakes are fine & there is nothing that can be done. Whats up with that?

The cars only short-coming is that the smooth Automatic Tranny has only a 3- speed gear set-up. The car is quick, nimble and performs great in traffic around the suburbs . But the gearing causes the motor to Rev very high on the interstates/ parkways, and engine noise is apparent. The "top" speed, therefore, is under 80 mph. Any fuel economy from this nice 16 valve is probably lost above 62 Mph. Mine is a basic low end model only w/ options of A/C and AutoTrans, and SO much is already standard (ie: excellent sound system) A real value despite the high-speed issues.

At 26000 miles the check engine light came on. Other than that everything has been fine so far. I get oil changes when its due.

Always loved Dodge cars. Previously owned the last 1999 2 door Neon Coupe with very standard features, but I liked it. My new 2004 Neon SXT Sedan is definitley a step up and found vast improvements, especially with audio & smoother ride. Very stylish with fog lamps and rear spoiler. Enjoy driving this vehicle very much. Trying to learn the CD controls is a bit of a challenge. The best feature is the smooth braking. Money-wise, it was a good deal, especially if you can get rebats like I did ($3500), plus with a trade-in, the final cost was lower than what I paid for my 1999 Neon brand new. I cant complain, I love this car.
