Overview & Reviews
Dodge's brute of a midsize 'ute receives numerous improvements for 2001. An electronic transfer case for its four-wheel drive system is now standard on 4WD models. A new instrument panel, center console with cupholders, interior trim and upgraded stereo has been added, and a tilt steering column is now standard on all Durangos. The 5.2-liter V8 engine is dropped, leaving the more efficient 4.7-liter V8 as standard equipment in both 4x2 and 4x4 Durangos. A variable-delay intermittent rear wiper is offered, and auto-dimming, heated outside power mirrors can be had on in SLT trim. A new appearance option group for the SLT includes 16-inch aluminum wheels, along with special body side moldings, running boards and lower panels. New 15-inch Sparkle Silver aluminum wheels are standard across the Durango lineup.
- Aggressive styling, large interior, powerful engine lineup.
- Poor gas mileage, stiff ride, lousy crash test scores.

My First SUV Purchase - 2001 Dodge Durango
By Lori0865 - July 7 - 2:00 amMy Durango is an SLT, but it has the 17" alloy wheels/tires, the optional 3rd seat in the rear,a power drivers seat, upgraded cloth interior and the 5.9 liter engine. I manage to get 15mpg on the highway which is better than most vehicles in its class. It handles terrific in the snow, ice, and severe thunderstorm/terrential rains in addition to good driving conditions. Its cargo capacity is awsome for a Christmas shopping spree at Birch Run or hauling 25 40lb bags of lava rock for landscaping (the suspension never flinched)!!! It holds 6 adults and one child comfortably as well as 2 dogs, 2 adults and luggage for a cross country trip.

Safety First Mom - 2001 Dodge Durango
By SafetyFirst - January 27 - 2:00 amFor the moms out there, I purchased the Durango, not only for looks, but for the all steel construction. I am very thankful I did. A few months ago, we were in a major accident in which the Durango spun around and flipped over twice down an embankment. No one was hurt, and my baby slept through the whole thing. All the seatbelts worked great, and we didnt have any trouble getting out of the car. When I looked at the Durango after we exited the car, there were no dents on the doors or anywhere passengers were sitting!!! The Durango held up VERY well, and well be getting another one when our lease is up.

2001 Durango - 2001 Dodge Durango
By rockymtndurango - October 9 - 2:00 am30,000 miles and its like new. The interior is very comfortable and luxurous. The leather 8 way heated, adjustable seats are very nice, and for long drives - very comfy. Its attractive and well insulated from outside sounds. The sound system is excellent. On the downside - gas mileage is low (although the tank is good size). The back liftgate is too hard to bring down, and for as large as it is, a van would have more room for the family. The dealer experience sucked - worst I ever had.

Best Ive Found - 2001 Dodge Durango
By Fractal_Tech - September 12 - 2:00 amI purchased this vehicle on September 9th of last year. This vehicle, with 24000 miles in 12 months, has been nothing but a joy. Nothing on it has broken at all, and it continues to purr like a kitten. Gets 15-17 MPG in the city, and never lacks for power, something I might add the explorer does, even with the V-8. Might have tried a Tahoe, but the extra $10,000 for the options I got seemed a little steep.
