Great Suv for the long road trip. Not so good to put a DVD in. Handles excellent in the poor weather(I have tested it out in 18+ inches of snow). Fairly easy to get in and out. I have been hit twice in it. Once in the front and it crumpled and took all the impact and the other on the side which caused the door to crumple up and it took most of the impact. Third row seating does not have climate controls or vents and it does get a little stale on long trips unless you get the R/T model which has vents for third row seating.

Bought it new with a 5.2L V8 and have never regretted it. Not even when the gas prices topped $2 per gallon here. It was a huge adjustment since my previous vehicle was a Saturn. But that only took a few days and shes been purring ever since. Sure it rides like a truck, but if Id wanted a car, I wouldve bought one. Some minor glitches, otherwise no trouble.

  • Wont sell my Durango - 1999 Dodge Durango

I bought my Durango a little over 2 years ago and have been pleased. The 5.9L is very thirsty but great power when needed. Ride is trucklike but agile. Too much wind and road noise at highway speeds. Only problems have been a tough-to-fix tranny leak that has added up to $400 and a drivers side power window motor(vehicle now has 87000 miles). Great size but would be nice to have enough for 4 x 8 sheet of plywood/sheetrock. Aesthetically appealing interior and exterior. ABS system poor on snow/ice I could stop faster without. Have been thinking of selling for less expensive payments but it is too fun to drive and too handy to get rid of.

  • I LOVE MY DURANGO!! - 1999 Dodge Durango

My husband and I ordered our Durango and took delivery on new years eve 1998. I have never ever regretted that day! I absolutely would recommend this vehicle to anyone and everyone. I think they screwed up when they redesigned it for 2004! I have no plans to trade or sell my durango. I love it! No mechanical problems, albeit the normal wear and tear (brakes, tires, etc.)

I have loved my 99 Durango in the three years I have owned it. It adapts from traveling to work, to carting kids to the game, to hooking the camper behind and going on a trip. Its never let me down with any sort of maintenance issues.

Ive driven this vehicle across the country, up mountains, through deserts, floods, wind and rain, and it has always responded with power and control.

  • OK so far - 1999 Dodge Durango

Bought SLT 4wd new (99). Have basically had no trouble with it. Have 57000 miles and still on original tires, shocks and ball joints. Many others have had problems with these areas. Gas mileage 14-17 is about what I expected. But I have not off roaded it. Have towed boat. Have had a little problem with minor surging at hiway speeds. Basically I have enjoyed this truck. But lease is coming up and am wondering what I am going to do.....

Very comfortable. Great 4wd. Gas hog. Stiff ride. Run extras with stereo and cassette controls on steering wheel. Rear ac and heat is nice.

  • A Dependable Friend - 1999 Dodge Durango

I actually recently turned in my 98 Durango after having owned it for five and-a-quarter years. In that time, it was the most dependable American car Id ever owned, and it rarely gave me any major mechanical problems. It looked great even when I turned it in 5 years later. I found the 5.2 liter 318 engine very adept at doing its job. In the time I had it, I moved 3 times. During the first two moves, I towed a fully packed 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix behind, and the Durnago never broke a sweat, even climbing through the mountains. The truck was good on the road, and had enough weight to it that I didnt feel like the trailer was driving the truck.
