This Year's Model Updates:

Two trim levels have been added -- SXT and SLT Adventurer. The SXT features roof rails, running boards and side moldings. The Adventurer includes a Thule roof rack, side steps, slush mats, cargo liner and organizer and unique wheels. Cloth heated seats are standard on all models this year (except the Limited, which sticks with leather heated seats). A full-screen navigation system is newly available.

Pros:
  • Strong V8 engines, agile handling, excellent ride quality, capable off-road, lots of cargo capacity, simple controls.
Cons:
  • Lousy mileage, sloppy fit and finish, needs more second-row legroom and storage, no stability control or parking sensors.

I have every option. Mechanically, Ive changed the oil and she runs and runs. Interior build quality is a joke, Ive had numerous parts just fall off including the infamous seat belt holder and the door reflectors on both sides. The air conditioning stinks. Heater blower too. The light tan interior is a super pain to keep clean especially the arm rest. Mileage is a joke for a few reasons. Number one. The computer mileage is not even close to being accurate. Two, my odometer is off 7%. Therefore if I travel 100 actual land miles my Durango says I went 107. Dealer says no fix. I say extend my warranty 2500 miles. Well we all know where that got me. The usual dumb look from the service manager.

No complaints. We haul a large camper, and it handles and performs wonderfully. Solid and dependable.

Great auto, lots of power. Gas mileage is poor. Inside lots of cheap plastic. Rebuild the inside with premimum products, dont go cheap. Move the fuse box. My foot knocks off the fuse box door, that is a pain. The seat belt needs to be longer. I am a big guy. Change the instrument light to a more fun color have fun with inside lighting. Its a dream to drive, just need to upgrade the inside to have a real winner.

This vehicle was a dealers when we purchased. We liked due to the room and durability of the seats. It has a smooth ride. Several months ago we were away from home when the car would not start due to something with the key. The vehicle would not start and had to be towed back to the dealership. Also the ABS light came on at 53,000 miles and needed to be replaced at $600 job by the dealer. Keys are $140 to replace and not dependable. The newer computer system they said is in the vehicle is a poor system and can cause these things to happen when there is actually nothing wrong. Too expensive to replace.

Superb vehicle! Leaps and bounds ahead of the previous style Durango. Hemi has everything you could want in a motor, cant complain about the gas mileage. It was posted on the sticker and was well known when it was rolled out. You cant expect 335 hp in a big SUV to compare to a Ford Escape in terms of mileage. Ride is smooth, handling is precise. Extremely quiet even at highway speeds. Could be more leg room in the 2nd row. Leather seats are high quality and heated seats are quick to warm. The transmission is slow to engage going from reverse to drive. Bad visibility looking over you shoulder due to the pillar being in the way. Good fit and finish, though glove box is too small.

Coming up on a year with our Durango, this is a good time to share a few things. The brakes have an occassional squeal that we are told is normal. But the interior front seat design is very poorly done for anyone over 200 lbs. My husband is an ex-football guy and whew, his muscles and size just dont go with the seatbelt contraption that pops out at the bottom of the seat. It has broken twice now, with just normal wear and tear, and you can see we dont drive it much with low miles. But that is probably the only complaints we have thus far.

The driving is great it is comfortable, but the plastic parts inside are already breaking like around the outside of the drivers seat where the electric controls are for the seat! The plastic parts seem cheap!

I much prefer the newer lines of the Durango (late 2004/2005/2006 models). After the looks, the saleman sold it to me by simply telling me to put the power down. I bought the 4.7L V8 and its great. The power in the mid-range is awesome (especially in tow/haul mode) but can be lazy to shift down at lower speeds. The ride is the smoothest Ive known. Its a fantastic road trip car, with plenty of room and it cruises like its on air. The large size isnt all that bad, as it manouvers reasonably well - and with over 100 cubic feet of luggage space it was invaluable for our recent house move! I highly recommend the towing package as it comes with larger wing mirrors.

  • Durango Does Not Disappoint! - 2005 Dodge Durango

I bought my Durango in 5/05 and have put over 20k miles on it thus far. I have never felt obligated to write a review on a vehicle before, but I am really impressed with this SUV. My previous two SUVs were a Bronco II and Ford Explorer. I was all set to buy another Ford Explorer when I decided to give the Durango a test drive. From the first moment I drove the Durango until the present day, I still find myself thinking what a nice truck. No comparison to the Fords, the Durango is another class. It is so solid, quiet, comfortable, commanding and the Hemi just plain hauls. Recently had to make a trip from NH to CT during a blizzard, the AWD/4WD/antilock brakes were amazing! Great SUV!

We purchased our Durango about two months ago. The satelite radio is a favorite feature for our family because when you travel, you do not lose your channel. The middle row has plenty of room to seat adults, however the 3rd row seat is recommended for kids. The cargo space is adequate, but you would have to use the luggage rack if taking alot with you on a trip. We opted to get a DVD system on our own because it is less expensive than the dealerships price. The gas mileage is not great, we average 13.5 MPG. The guage in the upper console tells you your average gas mileage, which is a nice feature. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. We love ours.
