For hauling a batch of kids, going camping, skiing, and trips to Costco its great. However, ita a pig on gas (13.8 mpg over 80K miles) and not maintenance free. The exh manifold bolts have broken, the drive shaft U- joint replaced, door locks replaced 2 times a new power steering pump and 3 sets of brakes. It has also depreciated $20K over 4 years making this a great used value, at my expense! I wont buy another new one.

I loved my 00 Durango until I hit the 50,000 mile mark. Major front end problems started to arise and they are still coming. The drivers seat could use more padding in the lower lumbar area. The padding broke down in my seat after 35k. The engine is solid! This truck can tow a house down. I have the 5.9 liter. The power is unbelievable! 3rd row seat is very handy.

  • Solid value, dont overspend though - 2000 Dodge Durango

Bought this vehicle in August 2003 and it was fully loaded SLT Plus with some aftermarket items like wind deflector, rear taillight grille, and weathertech window airvent shields. Has the big 5.9 liter V8. I like this engine but I wouldve preferred the more peppy 4.7 liter because the 5.9 takes a little more time to get up and go. I wont be doing too much towing either.

My Durango has 55000 miles on it and I have already had many oil pressure problems. I will never own a Dodge again.

The unit has great power and it has held up decently, but things like windows not working and the power door locks failing bug the crap outta me.

  • Former Mopar Lover - 2000 Dodge Durango

Was a big Mopar lover until the mid 80s until quality dropped dramatically. Then I went to Ford. But I always held some allegiance to Chrysler products and even own a 74 Duster 360 with 40,00 miles that I have had since new. Decided to give Mopar a try again with the 2000 Durango R/T. Wrong move!!! In the shop several times a year, and basically a piece of junk. Has had a head gasket replaced, fan clutch, catalytic converter, ignition wires, etc, all with less than 50,000 miles. Has died on the road on two occasions so far, and had to be towed while my family was on trips. Meanwhile my 93 Ford Explorer went to 70,000 miles without a hitch.

Great SUV, great driving performance, however, rough ride, definite truck feel. compared to the GMC Yukon Denali or Toyota Land Cruiser, this vehicle shapes up as brute force vehicle (better/similar to Yukon Denali) without subtle comforts (Land Cruiser).

  • Beware of Oil Gelling - 2000 Dodge Durango
    By -

No problems with vehicle, except it is a gas guzzler. At 44,000 miles engine threw a rod and blew due to oil sludge buildup. There are over 182+ people with the same malfunction ranging from 3000 miles new to 60000 miles. Very common problem in the 5.2L. Research before you buy.
