Rack-and-pinion steering becomes standard for both two- and four-wheel-drives. A performance-oriented R/T model has been added to the lineup that already includes the SLT and the decked-out SLT Plus.

  • This SUV is a BLAST!!! - 2000 Dodge Durango

The Durango is one fun SUV to own. I wasnt into the "grocery getter" SUVs that are all the rage now. I wanted a TRUE utility vehical. This thing is as comfortable chewing up rocks and mud as it is rolling downtown with friends. Loe the fold down rear seats and the spacious interior (Im 610") The upgraded audio is supurb with very little add ons necessary.

Weve had it for 30K miles and love the extra room and comfort of the big "D". Traded a Jeep Grand Cherokee in on it, so this Dodge had a heck of a reputation to live up to. Really like the aggresive looks of the Durango. And LOVE the sound of that 4.7 V-8 when I mash the pedal. Doesnt seem to be too bad on gas, given the weight of this thing and the engine. About 18 mpg on the hiway. Not as good as the Jeep, but we knew that up front.

The unit has great power and it has held up decently, but things like windows not working and the power door locks failing bug the crap outta me.

I put a lot of milage on my Durango each year but thats no excuse for it to just rattle apart. In the last 6 months it has spent more time in the shop then on the road.

  • Former Mopar Lover - 2000 Dodge Durango

Was a big Mopar lover until the mid 80s until quality dropped dramatically. Then I went to Ford. But I always held some allegiance to Chrysler products and even own a 74 Duster 360 with 40,00 miles that I have had since new. Decided to give Mopar a try again with the 2000 Durango R/T. Wrong move!!! In the shop several times a year, and basically a piece of junk. Has had a head gasket replaced, fan clutch, catalytic converter, ignition wires, etc, all with less than 50,000 miles. Has died on the road on two occasions so far, and had to be towed while my family was on trips. Meanwhile my 93 Ford Explorer went to 70,000 miles without a hitch.

  • 60K miles trouble free..awsome - 2000 Dodge Durango

Styling, ride characteristics and superb reliability have been the hallmarks of my Durango. Very very low maintenance / repair. Worst was front driveline (under warranty) due to worn u joint (my fault, BTW!!). Other than that...NOTHING in repairs have been required. 4.7 engine is exquistely simple to maintain (no rotor, distributor, plug wires). And with the HO Cams this truck is QUICK!!

  • WHAT A GREAT SUV!!!!! - 2000 Dodge Durango

I LOVE MY DODGE!!! I have had my Dodge for about a year. It has the 5.9L/360 engine which causes mileage to not be too good, especially when you are in town and not on the highway. The ride is comfortable and the handling is AWESOME! I have had NO problems with my Dodge. I would buy a new one in a heartbeat!!
