Overview & Reviews
Dodge's brute of a midsize 'ute receives numerous improvements for 2001. An electronic transfer case for its four-wheel drive system is now standard on 4WD models. A new instrument panel, center console with cupholders, interior trim and upgraded stereo has been added, and a tilt steering column is now standard on all Durangos. The 5.2-liter V8 engine is dropped, leaving the more efficient 4.7-liter V8 as standard equipment in both 4x2 and 4x4 Durangos. A variable-delay intermittent rear wiper is offered, and auto-dimming, heated outside power mirrors can be had on in SLT trim. A new appearance option group for the SLT includes 16-inch aluminum wheels, along with special body side moldings, running boards and lower panels. New 15-inch Sparkle Silver aluminum wheels are standard across the Durango lineup.
- Aggressive styling, large interior, powerful engine lineup.
- Poor gas mileage, stiff ride, lousy crash test scores.

Looks good but... - 2001 Dodge Durango
By Foochey - June 4 - 5:14 pmEngine is strong. Thats the end of the good news. Brakes are horrible, expect warped rotors Aand drums every 15,000m. Add to that the fact that these brakes are under-designed and will not stop this vehicle safely and should be recalled. The BCM module is a joke and must be replaced by dealership whenever your lights/wipers/etc go haywire (and they will). Youll get raped for this stupid charge that is designed into Dodges grand service scheme. Then theres the upper balljoint issues. Dodge will be out of business if they keep producing junk like this. Never another Dodge/Chrylser product for me...ever.

Worst Ever - 2001 Dodge Durango
By Bob - February 10 - 7:37 pmHave spent more on repairs for this vehicle than all others owned, combined, over past 40 years. Drives fine, but electric problems, several hard to diagnose computer sensors blown out, water pumps, fuel pump (in gas tank), etc.

Love the way it handles - 2001 Dodge Durango
By E Stewart - October 9 - 2:28 pmGreat overall vehicle. Not too wild about the looks but it drives like a champ. Handles easy, very fun to drive, with plenty of room for everyone. Has been an extremely reliable vehicle but I hear unexplained noises from time to time. I would highly recommend vehicle.

Durango - 2001 Dodge Durango
By karona - March 19 - 2:00 amNot happy with the finish out of interior pieces. Lots of little plastic pieces broken easily and back storage hatch totally disintegrated

Fun to drive if it holds up... - 2001 Dodge Durango

Be Careful - 2001 Dodge Durango
By Tigger - June 17 - 2:00 amI bought the Durango in February 2001 and traded it in September 2001. I got a horrible vehicle that was in the shop from June until August 2001 with A/C problems and then was not fixed correctly still! I dont know if it was the dealership or the vehicle, but my advice for $30,000 sticker price go buy a Tahoe or an Explorer and you will get better gas mileage and the insurance will not be as high! Good luck if you have one!
