This Year's Model Updates:

A new trim level dubbed "CV" has been added. The bargain-basement, four-cylinder-only "eC" model (extra-cheap?) has been dropped, but we doubt its passing will be mourned.

Pros:
  • Surprisingly agile handling, quiet ride for V6 models, low price.
Cons:
  • Some cheap interior bits, limited features and options, reliability record not as strong as some competitors.

  • Great vehicle - 2003 Dodge Caravan

I got my caravan at 78,000 miles Ive only had a couple problems since owning the car. First the O2 sensor went out (kind of an expensive fix for a single mom) and the power steering pump is going out. Other than that it has been a gem. Ive driven it in the snow and curvy mountain roads for two years with no issues. The car is now at 130,000 miles and still running even after hitting a deer really hard.

  • Dont hit anything - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

My dodge was working fine - did have to replace brakes pretty often - but was for the most part satisfied...until it slipped on the road due to snow - and hit a drain - which totaled the car. TOTALED THE CAR! one jolt - and the entire underside was busted to pieces - so i question the strength of the engine. Ive read other reviews saying the same thing. So if you never get hit nor hit anything, you might be okay...just be really really careful.

  • Bulletproof Minivan - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

We bought this minivan 2 years used and I was very reluctant based on the ratings Ive seen online. Im not a Dodge fan based on past experiences. Boy was I wrong. We just turned 160,000 miles on it and it has been bulletproof. No major issues other than routine maintenance. I couldnt have asked for more for the money.

  • Stalling and not starting - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

My vehicle has 83000 miles and is not over five years old. It just recently stalled while driving on the highway for about an hour. It would start but die again. Let it cool down some minute and would drive a little bit and stall again. After letting it sit for a day, it would not stall while sitting idle or driving around town. These situation did not happen to me but family members. When I finally was able to test the vehicle with the above mentioned problem, I discovered the stalling problem is caused by a bad "Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction", P0725 trouble code. You needed to go highway speeds for stalling not idle. Also, the starter goes in the 6th year.

  • Good Value, Looks Like a Keeper. - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

Thousands less than the Odyssey & Sienna, this was the choice. With kids, saving thousands to have it trashed was worth it. SXT package had aluminum rims, capt. chairs & tinted glass, that was all was needed. Rides & handles very well & decent gas mileage. Interior a little cheesy, but who cares, everything was functional. Had an early minor steering recall & had a rack & pinion leak at 30K. Back row difficult to take out/in. All in all a decent van that Ill probably keep til it (knock on wood). Unfortunately, these vehicles dont hold or have any value over time. If I get over 100K on it, I will consider it a bonus. Sadly, this is probably Dodges top vehicle, a van, but its a keeper!

  • Electrical Nightmare - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

I bought my Caravan brand new and within 2 months of owning it I started having problems. It wont start if the temperature outside is below 30 (dealership cant find problem), I have already had to have drivers side and passenger side windows fixed (they wouldnt roll down), had to have cabin lights fixed twice (first they wouldnt come on and then they wouldnt shut off), and still sometimes when I am driving all the alarms lights and cabin lights come on for no reason and then just back off after a few minutes. This was a replacement for the first 2003 Caravan I originally purchased that exhibited the same problems! Two electrical nightmares in a row!

  • Nice when new - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

Wife wanted a minivan and we settled on a Caravan SXT. It was fine when it was new but many little issues have cropped up. One power door lock doesnt work, annoying whine from the power steering, clunky sounds from the rear suspension started with only about 38Km miles on it. One side of the windshield washer will not spray fluid, left blinker will not cancel itself etc. Brought to dealer with several of these issues when still under warranty and they supposedly could not find any issues. Poor service. I have also owned a Dodge truck and a Jeep Grand Cherokee and had no issues with either of them. Seemed to be better built. May be a good used buy due to poor resale.

  • A Bargin for the Price - 2003 Dodge Caravan

This has been a rock solid piece of machinery. Reliable and very dependable. Now has 39,000 miles and only failure has been the CD player which was warrantied.

  • SXT? - 2003 Dodge Caravan
    By -

We purchased our Caravan late in the 03 model year (there were already 04s on the lot) and paid about $19000 brand new. Our van is labeled as an SXT even though it is actually an SE with some extras. An end of year model change-up? I am really happy with the van and over the past year it has held up well. Only one small problem, the drivers side power window has failed on two occasions. It seems to happen during cold weather and once the vehicle is warm it is fine again. We looked at Toyota and Honda but both were much more expensive and didnt offer the same features without purchasing big packages. For the price you cant beat Dodge. A very good family oriented vehicle.

  • 2003 Caravan Sport - 2003 Dodge Caravan

A solid value, it gives us 4 spacious bucket seats, we removed the rear bench and installed a power wheelchair winch, it has ample room for a large power chair, cargo, with space left behind the 4 seats, all which recline. My model has ample pickup, and very easy to manuever.
