Overview & Reviews
When the Chrysler Crossfire concept was first introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, there was genuine interest and excitement from both the motoring press and the public. Here was the first tantalizing fruit of the DaimlerChrysler merger that would combine German engineering and American style. A production model was announced, and the first Crossfires started to appear a few years later.
Available as a two-seat coupe or roadster, the Chrysler Crossfire was largely based on the first-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK. Its exterior design always turned heads, but the aged platform and unimpressive driving dynamics were major drawbacks. The Crossfire's steering response in particular was lackluster due to the use of the previous SLK's old-school recirculating-ball steering. Additionally, the vehicle's ride quality often seemed harsh, particularly on the high-performance SRT-6 version.
The Crossfire's slow sales could also be attributed to an interior that didn't look as rich as the car's exterior styling would suggest. There was also the cramped Crossfire's utter lack of utility. It's still an attractive vehicle to behold, but the Crossfire was simply outclassed by other vehicles in terms of luxury, brand cachet and performance.
Most Recent Chrysler Crossfire
The Chrysler Crossfire was available only in coupe form when it debuted in 2004, with a convertible model arriving the next year. The standard engine throughout the model cycle was a Mercedes-sourced 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine that produced 215 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. The transmission choice was between a standard six-speed manual and an optional five-speed automatic. The short-lived 2005-'06 Crossfire SRT-6 model boasted a sport-tuned suspension and a fire-breathing, supercharged 330-hp engine that came only with a five-speed automatic.
Leather upholstery was standard in 2004, when only one well-equipped trim level was offered, but starting in 2005 the Crossfire was offered in base and Limited trims, and the base car came with cloth upholstery and a limited roster of standard equipment. The Limited livened things up with power leather seats, an Infinity stereo and more sound insulation. In addition to its engine and suspension upgrades, the SRT-6 models added 18-inch wheels up front and 19-inchers out back and Napa Pearl leather seats with Alcantara suede inserts with enhanced bolstering. Unique to the base Roadster was an optional Special Edition package (2006 and '07 model years) that included Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat exterior paint, Dark Slate Gray cloth seats, SRT-6–style cast-aluminum wheels, a black windshield surround and satin silver door handles and side louvers. Otherwise, nothing much changed until 2008, when the base trim was dropped.
In reviews, our editors praised the Chrysler Crossfire's daringly distinctive looks, and the SRT-6 was loved for its blistering straight-line performance. However, the outdated steering system was unpleasant and the ride was stiff — unacceptably so in the SRT-6. Acceleration from the base 215-hp V6 was adequate but uninspiring. Overall, the Crossfire was an interesting styling exercise, but its driving character left much to be desired.

trade in from Cougar - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By Ken - July 6 - 2:04 pmThe design of the car says this is a different car to drive and own. The car was noticed by my co-workers before I said anything, I believe this could become a modern "classic" in the near future.

roadracer - 2005 Chrysler Crossfire
By cuda - July 5 - 9:03 pmI am fortunate to have two crossfires, a 2004 coupe and a 2005 roadster, SRT6. I am able to compare them side by side and I find them both extremely well built, tight and very fast. The SRT6 is a machine that is for the purist, well built, in quality, fit and finish, control layouts are easy to reach an use, the motor pulls like there is no end, very smooth and no objectionable noises, just raw power.I love the way it turns, it has to be the tightest turning radius of any car out there, the top operates very smoothly and gets stowed under a beautiful tonneau cover, with the top down and the optional wind screen in place there is no wind buffeting at all,for the money, a great sport roadster, world class

Awesome Car!" - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By kahuna - June 17 - 10:46 pmThe Crossfire is an absolute blast to drive. Its unique styling gets more attention than a modern day "lady-go- diva!" Everyone from little kids...to car enthusiasts...to little old ladies have asked me..."What kind of car is that!...or Boy does that look fun to drive!" Owning and driving it has been a real boost to my ego! Once I "put it on"...thats right! You dont just "get it to it!" You slip into it...like an expensive tailored suit! It has more than enough power to get anyone into trouble with the LAW. It hugs the road like a vacuum! It handles like it was on rails! Yes...I LOVE my Crossfire!

Eye Catching - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By Dawn F - June 15 - 10:00 amAbsolutly awesome car to drive. The exterior design is show stopper. Everywhere I go people and stopping by and looking at it. The inside design needed a little extra thought. The seat does not adjust to a comfortable setting for short people. and the low profile makes it a hard car to get in and out of. But other than that is a fun ride.

Better than my Porsches - 2005 Chrysler Crossfire
By jps - May 21 - 7:50 amBelieve it, I have owned three Porsche 911s and this Crossfire has garnered more looks, great questions, and more enthusiasm than any car I have previously driven. Even in car crazy Los Angeles. The build quality from the Karmann works is excellent. The driving experience is just right and the kids and grownups keep staring.

Fun, Fast, Rare & Classy - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By Black Crossfire - May 17 - 10:02 amI have never had a car that has gotten so much attention before. From little kids to little old ladies, everybody loves my car. I cant begin to tell you how often I am approached by people asking me what it is, and telling me how much they love it. Its definitely a head turner. Its fun to drive, very fast, and very quick. It corners like a dream. The only thing Id change about it is the cup holder...too small, and a little better gas mileage. But it doesnt do too bad. About 22mpg. Chryslers biggest mistake w/ this car was not advertising it very well. I think that most people are intimidated by its looks and think that it must be way out of their price league w/o even checking it out.

Exceptionally well made car - 2005 Chrysler Crossfire
By Marc B. Mankuta - May 16 - 11:23 pmThis is a Mercedes Benz, in Karmann built, Chrysler clothing. The car looks fantastic, drives beautifully and is one of the best built cars Ive owned. The interior materials feel first rate and the convertible top mechanism looks like mechanical ballet going up and down. So far there is nothing I dont like about the car. It is a steal at current market prices. Not a sports car to compete with Corvettes or Porsches on performance but a beautiful, open top, comfortable cruiser to compete or exceed them on all other levels most especially price.

Dont listen to the car magazines!!!!! - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By Coffey - May 6 - 8:30 pmI got this car for a give away price. Thats why i bought it instead of a 350Z or mustang. IT IS A BETTER CAR! The car magazines hate this car. I almost didnt buy it because of that. BUT I DID and am I glad. This car is a true sportscar. It has luxury features, and handles like a dream. It is nearly as fast as the 350Z, has more luxury features, and is soooo much cheaper to own. I am getting 30 mpg at 75 mph on the interstate. And do I ever get the looks and compliments. Again DO NOT LISTEN TO THE CAR MAGAZINES. This car is great and it can be had at bargain prices.

Mover and Shaker - 2005 Chrysler Crossfire
By HG - May 3 - 3:30 amI have the SRT6 version but couldnt find another way to post. Due to the power to weigh ratio, this is one of the fastest cars on the road without paying 85k. Supercharger awakenings the 3.2 from Mercedes. Destroys anything under 85k and some over that price. Interior a little cramped and gas mileage is not great but who cares, this car is an animal. Great second car. A cruising speeds very docile but with just a hint of gas and your going over 100mph. Great car

Head Turner - 2004 Chrysler Crossfire
By Great 2 seater.... - April 19 - 10:41 amI bought this car used and paid half the price of a new crossfire. I have to admit, the resale value on this is most likely not going to be great, but it is such a great looking specialized car. It is my first two seater, and it takes getting a little use to, but it is fun to drive. I agree with other people that the cup holder is not great, and the rear visibility takes getting use to, but the one thing that bothers me is the fuel economy. First, it uses premium fuel, second, it goes through gas very fast....however, that might have something to do with my lead foot, but i cant help it driving this car....in all, i love it and it get noticed...in a good way.
