As was mentioned in several other reviews, this car is very unreliable. I just bought the car six months ago and it has been in the shop four different times. I have had the fuel pump, fuel filter, idle motor, cap and rotor, new ty rods and ball joint replaced so far. Right now its broke down in the garage because it needs a new coil pack/distributor that is over $800. My mechanic has the car more then I do. Stay away.

Very rough ride, noted bad suspension, trunk leaked since purchased, unable to find source of leak (stuck w/ a defect), repairs have cost me a small fortune since warranty ran out. Not a reliable vehicle. Would not recommend or purchase in the future.

Ive been pretty satisfied with the 98 Chrysler Cirrus. Has been reliable overall. During my 5th year of ownership I began to experience a loss of power (due to spark plugs, wires, distributer needing attention) Ive enjoyed a troublefree vehicle during the 1st four years.

We bought this car after looking at another chrysler LX. We liked the leather and sound better. since the buy, we have had lots of problems. rear tail light quit working due to a corosive electrical plate($50). then the ABS went out($500plus). and now the brakes wont work half the time. when we press the peddle down every once in a while it just wont move. very dangerous! no one can figure it out without ripping into it deep and charging an arm and a 2 legs. very unsatisfied.

this car is ok. i had it for about 8 months. the only problem is that my car wasnt shifting. the problems where the trans control module and output speed sensor. the mechanics didnt even get it right the first time. overall the car looks good, drives good, and is just an average car.

I bought my Cirrus used in 1998 with 50K on the odometer and havent had a problem with her since. I have done all my own maintenance on the vehicle even though I am a layman when it comes to car repair. I have found quite a few aftermarket parts available and I have spent a little time at the track. The ride quality is good and the engine is peppy. A big bonus is the ability to carry 5 full size adults.

  • Ok car, but beware reliability gotchas - 1996 Chrysler Cirrus

This is a very nice car -- when it is working. We have had several major repairs over the life of the car (we are second owners, but might as well have been the first, since we got it with 9k miles). The A/C was addressed twice, the spark plugs and engine electrical many times (until out of warranty when a third-party garage actually found the problem and replaced the alternator/coil assembly), and the climate controls had to be replaced once.

I have driven this car about 120000 since new. At about 105,000 miles I had to have seals replaced in auto transmission, and new drive and accessory belts. The dealer recommended replacement of the water pump at that time Also water pump failure beyond 100,000 could happen with major damage resulting. So while in the neighborhood of the pump it seemed wise to replace it. A recent trip of about 1200 miles I averageD slightly over 30 MPG. Planning on a new car in the spring of 2003 awont drive past a Chrysler dealer to find the replacement car.

Best car ive owned so far. This car was 3 years old when purchased and was immaculately maintained. Its still in great condition and Ive had no major repairs needed. Handles great. Air conditioning system a little weak...have to turn it pretty high to get results.

  • Glad We Bought the Extended Warranty! - 1996 Chrysler Cirrus

The poor reliability of my V6 Cirrus LX will prevent me from ever buying Chrysler products again! The styling is great and it was fun to drive but it was often in the shop for MAJOR repairs. The entire air conditioning system was replaced over one extremely hot summer and the entire rack and pinion was also replaced. Im glad we paid for the extended warranty when we bought the car new! At 70K miles the car began to lurch, accelerate, and die. Neither the dealer nor an independent shop could solve this problem. After $1000 I gave up and traded it in on a VW.
