  • 51,000 miles and lots of problems - 2000 Chrysler Cirrus

I bought the Cirrus two months ago and already Ive had to fork over almost $700 in repairs. The car looks nice and the inside is beautiful but thats about it. The car wont start when its hot outside or if it rained the night before. I am having a tuneup done on it to see if that will fix the problem but Im not getting my hopes up. The parts for this car are very expensive and you have to take out the entire engine just to get a tuneup done. Stay far away from this bucket of junk and buy a Toyota Corolla or Chevy Prizm. At least with them you wont be stranded in a parking lot in 90 degree weather or pouring rain.

I got this car used. It was my parents but then the couldnt stand it anymore so they gave it to me. I have had so many problems. The AC and heating went out and after over $800 spent no one knows why. The transmission crapped out in 2007 and had to be replaced. When it gets hot outside the door panels stick and you cant open the drivers side door. Now the horn goes off whenever I turn the wheel and the only way to fix it is to disconnect it all together. This car has no redeeming qualities. Also, the gas gauge is hardly ever accurate.

  • Dont bother - 1998 Chrysler Cirrus

Transmission leaks, has sudden stop syndrome which has happened to me on the highway and city. Gets worse when it snows or rains. Not worth the trouble

  • Poor product - 2000 Chrysler Cirrus

This car presently has 61,000 miles. We bought it new and have had two radiators replaced due to leaking. Have had two transmission sensors go bad, both outer tie rod ends had to be replaced, the rusted hood had to be replaced and the blower motor resistor had to be replaced. Need I say more? You can see why my Dodge intrepid got traded in for a Honda Accord, which by the way has not had any breakdowns in four years and 52,000 miles. I have owned Chrysler for the last 36 years but this one will be my last one.

  • 171,000 miles and still going - 1997 Chrysler Cirrus
    By -

The car was purchased at 95,000 miles. I knew the person & needed something inexpensive. I you are the kind of person who will do oil changes every 3k-4k, transmission serviced every 30k, do the major overhaul/tune-up at 100,000 and again at 160,000 and not abuse the car over bumps/road, this car will last and last. At 171,000 miles now, its no luxury vehicle compared to whats on the road today but it is cheap to operate and and gets pretty good gas milage for a car built in 1997. If you are thinking of purchasing one with lower miles (if you can find one), Id only purchase if you can be shown repair records. I figure this car will last till 200,000 miles.

  • not the best - 1998 Chrysler Cirrus

there have been repeated problems with it and whenever i take it in to be fixed the mechanics always tell me these cars keep them in business

  • Missed it by that much - 1997 Chrysler Cirrus
    By -

Missed it by ... that much. Too much. In two years, I have had to service the brakes 3 times, replace ignition wires 2 times, and an idle knock has started in the lower end of the motor/tranny at 55,000 miles. Routine service was done. It averages only 18- 19 mpg around town with a 4 cylinder. It looks and handles nice, having lots of creature comforts. Also fast off the line and on the beltway. But, I plan to sell it. I was hoping for more mechanical reliability. Im looking at Japanese cars now. I wont miss it much.

  • Cirrus Had Its Good and Bad Points - 2000 Chrysler Cirrus
    By -

The ball joints all had to be replaced, both tie rod ends, both front struts, rotors and pads, rack and pinion, drivers window regulator. But especially, hood rusted through at leading edge (saw this on many others). This all before 65,000. Was good car but had a high maintennce front end (and ignition - wires and plugs). Was garaged and driven normally. Had the 98 Breeze before - same problems but it leaked oil by 30,000 miles to the tune of 1 quart a week. Am glad they stopped making it so I wont buy another. My brother had similar problems with his, plus the notorious front wheel bearing problems.

  • Disappointing: Too Many Repairs - 1995 Chrysler Cirrus
    By -

I bought my Cirrus new. I changed the oil every 3,000 miles and was religious about routine maintenance. It was a good car for the first 7 years. But then it all went down hill. It has been in the shop so often that I finally had to get rid of it so that I could get something reliable. Now the distributor needs to be replaced at only 86,500 miles! Several other things are also wrong, including a window motor and the A/C condensor. A new car payment will cost less than maintaining this disappointing vehicle.
