Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.

Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.

By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.

In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.

By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.

The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.

In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.

The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.

Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

  • style and practical - 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
    By -

I love the truck. It looks great in black. You will stand out in a crowd. It rides like a dream. And this is coming from a Navigator owner. All the bells and whistles of the Navi but with better road handling. I If you like trucks there is no better full size truck on the road for the money.

  • The only SUV I would buy - 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe
    By -

I am in the automotive industry and I would recommend the Tahoe over any other SUV. The look, room, comfort, safety, handling, reliability and many features out match those so-called wannabe SUVs.

  • Very Suprising - 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier
    By -

I was very suprised in how peppy the engine is. For the price, I dont think there is a car that will match it. The interior is cheaper than others but it is still pretty sturdy and can handle wear and tear from people and dogs. Because of the peppy engine, it is very fun to drive! Also gets better gas mileage than listed.

  • More GM problems - 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
    By -

I have owned 4 Corvettes and was looking forward to receiving my 2014 convertible this summer. After 2 weeks the car went in to replace the air conditioner compressor. Got it back and 3 weeks later it went in to replace the torque tube. The dealer has had it for 2 1/2 weeks and 3 days ago called me to say they didnt know how to fix it after having gotten a new torque tube from Bowling Green. The dealer then said they had called upon the GM technical folks to help them figure out the problem. Add this to GMs safety and quality failures. The simple problem is that they made the torque tube out of steel instead of aluminum and it transfers too much heat. Cant fix stupid!!!

  • 2017 Equinox is just what we wanted. - 2017 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Believe it or not this is our first SUV. We have driven Impalas in the past and still have a 2013 Impala. This is why we decided to lease this Equinox to try it out. So far my husband (he and our 39 year old son) love it. They insisted on a 6 cyl. with AWD so it does handle great and is comfortable. We are all tall so having the extra leg room in the back seat is great when needed. Also, like the good size cargo area. After only 2 weeks I think we all agree this was a good choice for the price.

  • Ive had better - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Ive had the nox for about 3 months now and ive had a few problems like the visor fell off and the console screws came lose but nothing major yet. There is a bit of access noise in the cabin but not too bad. The ride is pretty good, and the gas mileage is OK. I guess my favorite feature would have to be the interior room for the size of the car. Im 61 and its no inconvenience for me to sit in it. It has pretty good take off for the 185 hp. The car is not a bad one in my eyes. Im just saying there definitely are better ones out there. The stereo is pretty nice

  • It hurts to write this but.. - 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab 4x4 Lt 5.3 v8 58" bed. I have owned nothing but chevrolet for the past 12 years, and have been nothing but pleased until now. I have owned this truck for three months now and have a total of 5200 miles on it. The problem started the night I drove it home and noticed a vibration, immediately called the dealer and told them of the problem, long story made short the truck still isnt fixed. Not only the vibration but water in the headlights, seat squeaks around every curb, dash rattles and paint is super thin. GM has really been a disappointment. Save your time and buy a better truck for the money.

  • Pretty Darn Good - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

The truck is very solid. It has a smooth ride, quiet automatic transmission, and nice extras like automatic headlights, dual zone climate control and chrome front bumper. The seats are comfortable, but it definately needs a fold down arm rest. The stereo is ok. The interior is plain but clean looking and fits the simplicity of the work truck. I would upgrade to the V8 even though I have consistantly gotten 18 mpg with the V6. I opted for cruise control and a CD player. It is worth the extra money to get custom cloth seats and tinted windows as well. For the price, you really cant beat the quality.

  • An eight-month love affair... - 2017 Chevrolet Corvette
    By -

Ive had my white Grand Sport convertible with 8-speed auto transmission for eight months now and I still absolutely love her. Ive put 9,300 miles on her; the first 2,000 a very careful break-in, then 7,000 miles of grand touring driving: from Austin, Texas to Key West, Florida and back by way of the southern Appalachian mountains, then a quick trip from Austin to Denver and back. Plus some spirited driving on the back roads around Austin. You definitely will want a good radar + laser detector, plus Waze on your smart device if you drive this machine! And after those eight months I am still head-over-heels in love with my baby (I named her "Emoji" because from the front the headlights and grill give her the look of one of those slanty-eyed happy face emoticons). This car is, in my opinion, the sweet spot of the Corvette lineup, and the culmination of seven generations of engineering. This is a supercar in everything but price. For the price of a Ferrari F12 you can buy FIVE Grand Sports and have enough left over to buy gas for all for a year each, probably, and yet lap times for each are pretty much identical (ok, in Car & Drivers Lightning Lap face-off the GS bests the F12 by several seconds around Virginia International Raceway). This is a car that is at home on twisty backroads, the Autobahn, and the racetrack, and there are not that many production cars that can come close to the performance, gas mileage, and grand touring comfort - and possibly none for the price. Very few cons, in my opinion: 1) Limited luggage capacity in the convertible, but much better in the coupe; 2) not a car for winter driving in snow/ice climates, as there are no winter/snow tires available; 3) visibility, especially on the rear quarters, could be better; 4) seats could use more lateral support for a car capable of 1.1 G lateral force when cornering on street tires (but they are miles ahead of previous generation Corvette seats, and actually do provide some lateral support!); 5) if you value privacy you will get tired of people complimenting you when stopped at traffic lights! :) Other than that theres really very little that I find annoying about this wonderful machine. Highly recommended, if you are in the market for a two-seater touring/racing/sports car. And I havent even mentioned things like the dry-sump lubrication (keeps the engine oiled during hard cornering/accel/braking), magnetic shock absorbers (monitors road conditions and adjusts the ride 180 times a second for road/driving conditions), and phenomenal braking ability (70-0 in 136 feet on stock tires!), nor have I mentioned the vastly-improved cabin appointments, with heated/ventilated seats, passenger climate controls on the passenger vent, heads-up instrumentation, etc. etc.). Oh, and this website does not seem to allow line breaks, so sorry for the one big run-on paragraph. Respectfully, Delta Foxtrot, Austin, Texas.

  • Nice car with some disappointments - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have had my 2011 chevy equinox for 3 weeks, and put 913 miles on it. I love the handling of this car, lot of space. I bought a basic model, but it doesnt look cheap at all. However, the gas millage is not good as GM claim, I only get 17 mpg on city, and its not even close to 22. I havent drive a lot on highway yet, so I am looking forward to see what will be real the highway mileage. This car looks really nice but I am really disappointed about GM’s quality control! I went back to the dealer 3 times for the last 3 weeks. The seat belt was twisted face to a wrong side, front passenger door window trim is not even as the rear door, rear door window has a problem to roll down
