Overview & Reviews
Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.
Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.
By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.
In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.
By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.
The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.
In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.
The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.
Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

Too soon, but - 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By KanTex - September 11 - 5:53 pmOnly 100 miles so far but truck performs really well. Ministry work includes pulling trailer next week. Will see how it does to pull. Build quality as far as seen today is outstanding. Ride comfy for a 3/4 ton. Great steering, road feel & seats better than my 06 Dodge. Motor really roars. Decent deal as 2011 models out soon. Prayer is for years of economical service.

An Impala for singles. Sweet ride! - 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
By Motorman - September 9 - 10:00 amConsider it a 2007 Impala LT with two doors and sleeker styling. Its basically the same car! Very comfortable with its wide interior and vast stretch-out space up front. Even the rear seat is roomy once you access it. The 3.5-liter V6 gives a nice power and economy combination; I regularly get 20-23 MPG city and 30-32 MPH highway on 87-octane gas, and still have plenty of power for safe passing and merging. Blissfully smooth ride with its long wheelbase. Quiet on the move. Very roomy trunk. Handles well enough, but just a little too big to be called nimble. OnStar brings great safety-related peace of mind. Climate controls heat and cool quickly and effectively. Long GM powertrain warranty!

Near perfect... - 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Cap’n Phil - September 5 - 3:09 pmThis Silverado replaced a 2003 GMC SIERRA that had proven reliable and comfortable and had a ‘17 GMC in similar trim to the Silverado I purchased been available I’d have gone with another Sierra. The ‘17 Silverado is a big step up from my ‘03 Sierra. The ride is much better, the interior far upgraded and the new technology and safety features much advanced. Fit and finish is truly handsome and the LTZ Z71 in white makes a stunning truck. However...it’s not perfect. The 8-speed tranny can at times make strange shifts and occasionally the included GM On Star disappoints, in particular the navigation routing is really troubling. But overall this truck deserves a 4 Star Plus rating. As to reliability...time will tell but I think it will be around average for a pickup this size.

The bad outweighs the good - 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
By came0kid - September 5 - 2:00 amThis would have been the perfect SUV for me if not for the mysterious electrical problems they cannot fix. It started to break down less than 3 mos old, and has been in the shop 7 times in 11 months. Problems have involved 4WD transfer control module, A/C, Ignition switch, Rear springs (to fix a frequency rumble/vibration at 55mph), passenger door not closing properly, Radio presets mysteriously disappearing, poor gas mileage, rough transmission shifting; computer updates needed; safety recalls. If you want a sunroof you are forced to purchase OnStar for $900 with $14.95 monthly fee.

Really Nice Smaller SUV - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
By jeff57 - September 4 - 7:33 pmI decided on a smaller SUV after driving a Trailblazer and Explorer since 1998. The Equinox exterior style is most impressive, and many of its features, especially AWD, is great. Excellent traction when accelerating on wet pavement, and comfortable to drive. Good bang for the buck.
